A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING DRUG -FREE AND WEAPON -FREE ZONES.
WHEREAS, the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas passed Senate Bill 16, establishing
drug -free zones of 1,000 feet around schools, institutions of higher learning, and playgrounds; 300
feet around public and private youth centers, public swimming pools and video arcade facilities;
and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 16 also establishes weapon -free zones of 300 feet around primary
or secondary schools subject to or eligible for accreditation by the Central Education Agency; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 16 provides for the minimum term of confinement or
imprisonment and the maximum fine for an offense committed within such drug -free zones to
be doubled; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 16 also provides for the punishment prescribed for an offense
committed within weapon -free zone to be increased to the punishment prescribed for the next
highest category of offense; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 16 provides for the preparation of a map by the City Engineer
for the purpose of showing the location and boundaries of such drug -free and weapon -free zones,
for use as evidence in the prosecution of certain drug or weapon- related offenses; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, desires by this resolution to
approve the map prepared by the City's Engineer as an official finding and record of the location
and boundaries of drug -free and weapon -free zones within the City of Euless, Texas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EULESS, TEXAS:
That the map attached hereto as Exhibit "B" is hereby approved as an official finding of
the Euless City Council and is a record of the location and the boundaries of drug -free and
weapon -free zones within the City of Euless, Texas, under the provisions of Subchapter D of
Chapter 481 of the Texas Health and Safety Code.
Be it further resolved by the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, that the City
Engineer is hereby directed to file a certified copy of the approved map attached hereto with the
county clerk of Tarrant County, Texas.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, and
effective, on this 10th day of January , 1996.
