HomeMy WebLinkAbout96-930 01-23-1996RESOLUTION NO. 96 -930 RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF JANUARY 20, 1996 SPECIAL ELECTION WHEREAS, an election was held within the City of Euless, Texas on January 20, 1996, on the proposition whether to adopt an additional sales and use tax within the City of Euless at the rate of one -fourth of one percent to be used to reduce the property tax rate; and WHEREAS, there were a total of 654 voters at said election; and WHEREAS, said election was called and held in strict conformity with the laws of the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, only duly qualified resident electors of the City of Euless voted at said election; and WHEREAS, the Municipal Sale and Use Tax Act, contained in Chapter 321 of the Texas Tax Code, requires that the City Council of the City of Euless declare the results of said election by resolution; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS: That an election was held within the City pursuant to the requirements of the Municipal Sales and Use Tax Act and the Texas Election Code on January 20, 1996, at which the following proposition was submitted to the voters: The adoption of an additional sales and use tax within the City at the rate of one -fourth of one percent to be used to reduce the property tax rate. And at said election the total number of votes cast for the proposition was 550, and the total number of votes cast against the proposition was 102. The City Council hereby finds and determines that the number of votes by which said proposition was approved was 448. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Secretary ' of the City of Euless shall send to the Comptroller of the State of Texas by United States certified mail a certified copy of this resolution upon its adoption, along with a map of the City of Euless clearly showing its boundaries. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, and effective on this 23rd day of January, 1996.
