WHEREAS, in 1992, the Cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford combined
efforts and formed the "Northeast Gang Task Force" to combat the
growing gang problem in these communities by exchanging personnel
and enforcing violations of the law; and
WHEREAS, the Northeast Gang Task Force received funding from the
Criminal Justice Division of the State of Texas to develop a
diversion program to provide gang members with viable alternatives
to gang activity, and to educate them about the adverse effects
gang membership can have on their lives; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the importance of continuing
such a program to discourage youths from becoming involved in
criminal activities, thus protecting the citizens of Euless from
becoming crime victims; and
WHEREAS, funds for continuing this diversion program are available
through the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office for
grants to local governments;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Euless City Council
supports the submission of application to the Criminal Justice
Division of the Governor's Office for the funding of the Northeast
Gang Task Force's Diversion Program, and if the continuation
application is approved for funding, authorizes the City of Euless
to execute all necessary applications, contracts and agreements to
implement and fulfill the purpose specified in this resolution.
