Griggs, City Manager City of Euless 201 Ector Euless, Texas 76039 Dear Mr. Griggs: BOARD OF EDUCATION 0u1 J. Mustier Mo. W. S. Walton George Ebzrhert Jim Mlchomis The School Board of Trustees at their meeting last night discussed several items relative to development and improvement of school facilities in the eastern area of the School District. Some of these items need immediate attention, and it would be appreciated if'they could be considered at tonight's council meeting.. 1. Agreed to accept the informal offer of the City to assess the School District $18,700 as its share of the installation of curb, gutter, paving, and culvert in proposed Municipal Way adjacent to Trinity High School. 2. Agreed to pay one-half of the costs for the installation of a street across the north end of the Euless Junior High School tract and rearranging of the play fields. The estimate of cost for each entity follows. (We might mention that these estimates could be too low, especially if problems are en- countered in rearranging the fill on the main football field.) Installation of street, 920 lineal feet P $16. . . . . . $14,720 Installation of 61 chain link fence along school side of street with 50 feet additional at either end, 10201 P$3. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3,060 Rearranging play areas . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6,000 Engineering and supervision fees . . . . . . . . . . . . 1,000 Total estimated costs . . . . . . . . . . . . . $24,780 Costs to school district (', of total). . . . . . . . . . $12,390 Less credit Ior of street r.o.w. Asked that the City sell the School District about eight acres of the 20-acre park site for a proposed elementary school. (This is the one we have discussed before.) The policy of the School District has been to allow the Cities to purchase park acreage from the School District at the price the School District paid for the land plus interest on the applicable bonds during the period since the original purchase.. Mr. C. J. Griggs, City Manager 2 February 10, 1970 a 4. Authorized the administration to purchase ten acres from the firm of r5k Ken Good and Associates out of the George L i nney survey for a proposed ele- mentary school. If the City still wishes to purchase two acres abutting this school tract for a park, we will be glad to work with you. 5. Received a report from the administration that the elementary school tract offered by Ken Good near his proposed apartment complex east of North Main and south of Midway Drive is not suitable for an elementary school. The only street abutting the site is a proposed thoroughfare, the tract is irreg- urally shaped, and the drainage structure that crosses it makes a portion of the land unusable. A conversation with Ken Good relative to the moving of the site farther east, possibly to the proposed north -south street, received an offer to sell but at an exorbiant price. If apartment zoning continues to be approved, the School District will definitely need a site in this area. It would be appreciated if the City in its power to approve the orderly develop- ment within its bounds could assist the School District in acquiring a suitable site in this area. If our summary of the above is not clear, please call on us. Sincerely, Charles W. Wages SuperintendenL CWW/mr
