HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-09-09Historical Preservation Committee Minutes September 9, 2024 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 10:03am by Chairperson Suzy McCormick and was held at the Heritage Museum, Euless. MEMBERS PRESENT Doris Brown, Michele Burger, Randy Byers, Elaine Green, Mary Hunt, Keith Jernigan, Suzy McCormick, Anniece Mcl<anna, Linda Pool, Joe Robinson, Norma Runyon, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Parks and Community Services Director - Duane Strawn; Assistant Director of Parks and Community Services - Elizabeth Johnson; and Parks & Community Services Administrative Secretary -Jodie Dunn. VISITORS PRESENT Parks Staff: Randy Leach, Mike Cullum, and Johnnie Grubbs APPROVAL OF MINUTES Joe Robinson made a motion to accept the June minutes with the corrections indicated, seconded by Linda Pool. With unanimous approval, the motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT The beginning balance effective today is $7,657.40. There was a deposit of $86.25. The ending balance effective September 9 is $7,743.65. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment— Linda Pool circulated the Open House docent signup sheets for September and October. 2. Acquisition —no report. 3. Facebook—Linda Pool stated she is continuing to post in many Facebook groups and encouraged members to share, too. She is hoping to set up an Instagram account also recommended using a Hashtag on the posts. There was discussion about contacting someone at the City for assistance with content. 4. Plaque — up to date. 5. Display Signs— up to date. 6. Publicity/Programs/Speal<ers—Mavy Wright suggested we ask the City to advertise the Museum in the Euless Today every month. She stated she is interested in contacting Lance HPC MTG 06102024 - Page 1 of 2 Tahmahkera (great -great grandson of Quanah Parker) to speak in the Spring. This would be a huge draw to the museum. 7. Heritage Park —no report. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT — Ms. McCormick thanked Duane and the City for the opportunity to make a presentation of the museum to the City staff. It included a brief video, which needs to be updated. She thanked the committee members who attended. STAFF REPORT — Duane Strawn had several items to discuss: A. He indicated the video was well received and several attendees expressed interest in volunteering. B. He spoke on the updates to the Military Room. C. Trunk or Treat is scheduled for October 26 from 4:30-7:30pm at Glade Parks. D. He also mentioned setting the date for the December Christmas luncheon on December 9 at Texas Star. E. Parade of Lights will be on December 7 from 6:30-7:30pm. F. Holiday in the Park is scheduled for December 14 from 10-3pm. The Parks Department has plans to add lighting to the fence around the museum to make it more festive. G. Museum foundation work is planned for next year —this will be a more intensive repair than was recently done. COMMITTEE REPORT / INPUT Linda Pool mentioned there is a crack in the walls at the Fuller House and wondered if there was a warranty from the previous repair. At the upcoming Heritage Park Christmas event, Michelle Burger suggested we could offer an activity for kids to create log houses made with Tootsie Rolls which would promote the Himes Log House. She also stated there will be a Community Garage Sale at the Euless Family Life Center on October 12 from 8-noon at a cost of $10 per booth. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Elaine Green and seconded by Norma Runyon to adjourn the meeting. Ms. McCormick declared the meeting adjourned at 11:00am.
