On Monday, August, 05, 2024, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: Magen Brown, Steve Doty, Zariyan Stark. Members absent: John Raab and Laird Leavoy. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Duane Strawn, Assistant Parks and Community Service Director Elizabeth Johnson, Parks Manager Randy Leach, Parks at Texas Star General Manager Chris Thames, Aquatics/Senior Superintendent Richard Sharnsky, Recreation Center Supervisor Chance Boyd and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. Visitors present: Loretta Doty INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the June 03, 2024 regular meeting. Roger Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Steve Doty. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Magen Brown —West Park & Wilshire: No items to report. b. Steve Doty — Midway, Blessing Branch, J.A. Carr & Kiddy Carr: No items to report. c. John Raab — Bob Eden & Trailwood: Not present. d. Roger Sickler — Heritage Park & South Euless: No items to report. e. Laird Leavoy — Preserve & McCormick: Not present. f. Zariyan Stark — VOBC & Reflection: No items to report. g. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Roger Sickler reported the following for June 2024 & July 2024: a. Total man hours for June 11t — 301h = 550 • 372 Horticulture • 150 Forestry • 24 Greenhouse • 4 Special Projects • 0 Training ➢ Removed 1 Live Oak and 1 Pine Tree ➢ Removed lower branches and lifted canopy on Highland Road lots ➢ Trimmed trees at PATS North and South ➢ Removed sucker on Hwy 10 and Mid Cities median ➢ Removed branches over trail at bridge in Glade Parks ➢ Removed under growth and suckers' trees at Preserve pond for boat launch b. Total man hours for Julv 151 — 311t = 792 • 470 Horticulture • 202 Forestry • 26 Greenhouse • 34 Special Projects • 60 Training ➢ Removed 3 dead Pecan Trees and 1 dead Elm tree at Trailwood Park ➢ Lifted the trees along the fire lane at Trailwood Park ➢ Removed sucker and small branches on Chinese Pistache at PATS North entrance ➢ Replanted 2 Red Oaks and 1 Bald Cypress at Wilshire Park ➢ Removed several dead Pines and trim trees around pond at Wilshire Park ➢ Removed broken Red Oak leader at Reflection Park ➢ Removed 2 dead trees at Villages of Bear Creek ➢ Trimmed low branches at South Euless, Villages, J.A. Carr and Blessing Branch III. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Athletics Report —Chris Thames • Sandy Purcell was awarded as Employee of the Month for August 2024. Sandy Purcell is the heart and soul of the Parks at Texas Star and is well deserving of this award. • The summer track program has concluded. There were 149 kids registered in the program. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 • Over 1600 people attended the Circuit meet that was hosted by the Euless program. • The PATS department is currently holding registration for the Flag Football program and also finishing up Baseball registration. b. Parks Report — Randy Leach • The greenhouse roof replacement project is now complete. • The Parks department had Ice Cream and Training. Employees had ice cream as a team and took part in group training. • The Parks department helped in removing the sponsored bricks at the police department before they started their renovation. They helped remove the bricks and also helped to palletize the bricks. • Midway Park sign was involved in a car accident and will need to be repaired. • There was a water leak at Reflection Park so the leak was fixed as well as the sidewalk. The project took about a day to complete. • The Parks department was also involved and helping with storm damage. They drove around the city and also took calls for fallen trees. • The slide at Heritage Park playground was replaced and a tree climber was added. • The Ribbon cutting will be held at Wilshire Park on August 09, 2024 at 8:30 AM. c. Recreation Report — Chance Boyd • Holden Garner was selected for Employee of the Month for July 2024. Holden ran summer camp this year and was given very high praises. • Raising Canes partnered with summer camp and provided Achievement awards and Lemonade coupons. • Cathy's Critters provided animals to summer camp as one of their field trips. • Dare to Dink was held on July 18, 2024 from 7:00-9:00 pm. The program lasted about 6 weeks and had about 200 people participated. A 151 and 2nd place winner was awarded trophies and goodie bags. • July was Parks and Recreation Month. For the month the citizens were offered a Member Appreciation Day, a Member Incentive if signed up during certain times, a Scavenger Hunt that was advertised on social media and water was handed out in different parks. d. Aquatics & Senior Center Report — Rich Sharnsky • The Senior Center offered Float the River every Friday in the summer from 9:30 AM till 11:00 AM. • The seniors also had a cookie bake off, Father's Day Lunch, Guess that chicken, free popsicles, Plant swap, Art Canvas and a Christmas in July with gifts and a potluck. • HEB Senior Games will be held on September 13th, 2024 in Hurst. • The Aquatics Department took part in the World's Largest Swim Lessons and had 105 participants. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 3 • The Aquatics Department also took part in Parks and Recreation Month in July by handing out popsicles. • Lifeguard Appreciation Day was in July and all employees were fed. • Indoor swim lessons are going on and will continue in to the fall. E. Directors Report — Duane Strawn • The Park Board voted to move the time of the Parks and Leisure meeting to 6:00 PM instead of 7:00 PM. • The Parks Master Plan is still ongoing. We are at the end of Phase I and are jumping in to Phase II. • August 09, 2024 there will be a ribbon cutting at Wilshire Park at 8:30 AM. • Chief Brown has announced his retirement and will be retiring at the end of the month. • The landscaping project will begin the first week of September. • The Highland Drive irrigation project is going well. • Trailwood will be getting a new playground with new tables and benches. This project should start mid to late September. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. IV. Other New Business • No new business to report. V.
