The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 6:01 PM. On
Monday, November, 04, 2024, in the Pre -Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by
Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Laird Leavoy and
Zariyan Stark. Members absent: John Raab and Magen Brown.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Duane Strawn, Assistant Parks
and Community Service Director Elizabeth Johnson, Parks Manager Randy Leach, Parks at Texas
Star General Manager Chris Thames, Aquatics/Senior Superintendent Richard Sharnsky,
Recreation Superintendent Alex Harvey, Senior Center Supervisor Sonja Howard, Recreation
Assistant Shelli Walsh, Recreation Assistant Jackson Davis and Administrative Secretary Jodie
Dunn.
Visitors present: Michael Dayton, Gabriel Rosas and Loretta Doty

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the
September 09, 2024 regular meeting. Steve Doty made the motion to approve the minutes as
presented and was seconded by Zariyan Stark. The vote was unanimous.

II. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Roger Sickler reported the following for September and October:
a. Total man hours for September 111 — 30th = 815
• 315 Horticulture
• 168 Forestry
• 228 Greenhouse
• 0 Special Projects
• 104 Training
➢ Trimmed trees around PATS South Complex
➢ Removed 4 dead trees at Villages of Bear Creek
➢ Trimmed low branches in Cresthaven lots
➢ Trimmed trees around 9/11 Memorial
➢ Removed dead Pecan tree at Midway Park
b. Total man hours for October 1st — 31st = 894
• 602 Horticulture
• 264 Forestry
• 18 Greenhouse
• 0 Special Projects
• 10 Training
➢ Raised trees on Midway Dr and Bear Creek Parkway medians
➢ Removed 2 dead trees at Villages of Bear Creek
➢ Removed 1 Large Elm tree at McCormick east
➢ Elevated tree along Villages of Bear Creek trail system
➢ Removed dead tree on Highland Drive
➢ Trimmed trees off Star Center for Paint Contractor
➢ Removed dead Red Oaks at City Hall, Fire Administration and Library
parking lot
➢ Raised up tree at Ector and Lamar Alley Way
➢ Trimmed Pecan and Chinese Pistache tree at Shield Awards
➢ Trimmed Fire Lane at Planning and Development
➢ Trimmed trees at Trailwood park and removed several dead trees
➢ Removed suckers from Crepe Myrtles, Desert Willows and Chitalpas trees at
Library and Main Street Bridge

III. Parks and Community Services Reports
a. Athletics Report —Chris Thames
• PATS North held a Fright Fest Tournament. Teams were encouraged to dress up
and there were different games each inning.
• Texas Roadhouse had a corporate event at PATS. This is their 18th year. 28 teams
participated coming from places such as Arkansas, South Texas and Oklahoma.
• We will be putting Turf on the last two fields. This will start on 11/12/24.
b. Parks Report — Randy Leach
• Concrete was poured at Trailwood and Bob Eden and benches were added.
• Dead Trees were taken down at McCormick and Villages of Bear Creek.
• A Live Oak was lifted due to school bus obstruction.
• All new work out stations were installed at Villages of Bear Creek. There was also a
new unit added by the playground.
c. Recreation Report — Alex Harvey
• Holiday at Glade Parks will take place on November 16, 2024 from 6pm-9pm.
• The 30th Annual Parade of Lights will take place on December 07, 2024 starting at
6:30 PM.
• Swim with Santa will be on December 13th at 6:00 pm. This will be at the Euless
Family Life Center Natatorium. Registration is required and will be $10 per person.
Space is limited.
• Heritage Park Christmas is a free event that will take place on December 141h from
11:00 am — 3:00 pm.
• Winter Break Camp will take place on the following Dates: December 23, 26, 27 and
30th, also January 2nd and 3rd. Camp will be from 7:30 am — 6:00 pm.
• Holden Garner and Chance Boyd participated in the CPR event.
• Monster House was the movie that was played for Movie in the Park. The event
was great with many people in attendance.
• Jr. Anglers returned and was a hit for all who attended. Prizes were given away.
• Trunk or Treat was held on October 26th. There was estimated to be 5,000 people
in attendance. A drone show was held at the end of the event and was very well
received.
d. Aquatics & Senior Center Report —Jackson Davis & Shelli Walsh
• The Aquatic Staff put on the Pumpkin Splash event on October 18th, 2024. The
event was full and participants swam and decorated pumpkins.
• Indoor swim lessons are in full swing and continue to fill up month after month.
• During the off season the pumps in the pump room are being replaced. As of now
all the outdoor pumps have been replaced.

• Shelli Walsh reported on the Senior Center events. 28 people attended the field
trip to the State Fair. The senior center also hosted the community garage sale,
and had a Cert Class with Code.
• The Tarrant County Jamboree was held at Parks at Texas Star South. 200 people
attended with 35 vendors. There was a petting zoo and Dallas Cowboys Alumni
Cheerleaders.
• There was a dip cook off with 8-10 entries.
• The Senior Center hosted a Halloween Party. This event was so fun and many
members complimented the meal. There were 50 members in attendance.
Members were encouraged to dress up and participate in a contest with a 1st, 2nd
and 3rd place prize.
• The Senior Center started a food pantry that has been able to help 150-200
members. The Senior Center would like to Thank the Euless Fire Department for
the donation that was made towards the food pantry.
• Elizabeth Johnson addressed the concerns from the members regarding the
challenges of juggling voting and still hosting activities for the seniors.
E. Directors Report — Duane Strawn
• The Senior Center won a Regional Award at TRAPS for the HEB Senior Games. This
event was created and came to fruition with a huge thanks to Shelli Walsh.
• The split rail on Main Street is in the process of being completed. This repair was
due to a car accident on Main Street with debris being thrown on the pickleball
court.
• The Park Board Holiday Dinner will take place on December 02, 2024 and this year
we would like to invite you to invite a plus one to this dinner.
• The Parks Master Plan is in the conceptional phase and will hopefully be brought to
the Park Board in January. Shade at several playgrounds has already been funded
and this came from the Parks Master Plan.
• The Landscape and Irrigation on Highland Drive is in the works. The Archway is
underway. They are adding street lights and fiber to Highland Drive.
• The PACS department would like to invite the Park Board to give ideas on the
Holiday Float for this year's parade and are also invited to partake in putting the
float together.
• Effective January 1, 2025 there will be two new appointments to the Parks and
Leisure Service Board. Zariyan Stark will be moving to the Planning and Zoning
Board. Effective January 1, 2025 Gabriel Rosas and Michael Dayton will be joining
the team and we are looking forward to their start.
• During the Director's report Steve Doty has asked for voting to be moved to
another location.
Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports.

Chairman Jones gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
