A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF EULESS ENDORSING
THE MONTH OF MAY AS BICYCLE TRANSPORTATION
MONTH
WHEREAS, bicycling can be a safe, efficient, cost - effective, healthy mode of transportation; and
WHEREAS, the North Central Texas Council of Government's Mobility 2020: The Metropolitan
Transportation Plan establishes a regional goal of increasing access and safety for bicyclists; and
WHEREAS, Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant Counties are classified by the United States
Environmental Protection Agency as a nonattainment area for ozone; and
WHEREAS, bicycle transportation is a popular, straightforward approach to reducing emissions
and improving air quality; and
WHEREAS, the League of American Bicyclist's has established May as National Bike Month to
encourage increased awareness of the bicycling throughout the United States.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED:
Section 1. That the month of May in this year 1998, shall be Bicycle Transportation Month
in North Central Texas.
Section 2. That local government in North Central Texas is likewise encouraged to establish
May as Bicycle Transportation Month in their jurisdiction.
Section 3. That the ceiclo en Mayo! Celebration, held in May 1998 in order to celebrate the
great holiday of Cinco de Mayo and bicycle commuting shall be recognized as
the greatest Celebration of Bicycle Commuting in the State of Texas.
Section 4. That this resolution, shall be in effect immediately upon its adoption.
Adopted at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the 24th day of March,
1998 by a vote 6 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions.
