A RESOLUTION OF '1HI CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS,
SUPPORTING LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS TO
AMEND LOCAL OPTION ELECTION LAWS
REGARDING ALCOHOL
WHEREAS, the City of Euless, Texas, is a home rule municipality located in Tarrant
County Texas; and,
WHEREAS, the sale of wine for off - premise consumption is currently not permitted in
the City of Euless; and,
WHEREAS, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code governs the holding of local option
elections for citizens to approve or prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages; and,
WHEREAS, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code sets forth strict requirements for
authorizing an election to approve or prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages which effectively
prohibits the citizens of Euless to determine whether to permit the sale of alcoholic beverages in
the City of Euless; and,
WHEREAS, the sale of alcoholic beverages in the City of Euless would have significant
positive impacts on the economic development, property values, tax revenue generated, and
general welfare of the citizens of the City of Euless; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Euless deems it in the best interest of the
citizens of Euless, Texas, to support the introduction and passage of legislation that would reduce
the strict requirements for authorizing a local option election to allow the citizens of the City of
Euless to determine whether to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages on a citywide basis.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF EULESS,
TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1.
The City of Euless, Texas, supports the introduction and passage of legislation that would
reduce the strict requirements of 35% of the registered voters to 20% of the registered voters
required on a petition and increasing the number of days allowed to obtain the signatures to be
changed from 30 days to 60 days for authorizing a local option election in order to allow the
citizens of Euless to determine the sale of alcoholic beverages in Euless.
PASSED AND APPROVED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the 13th
day of April, 1999, by a vote of 6 ayes, 1 nay, and 0 abstentions.
