HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-07-2231 Regular Meeting Euless City Council July 22, 1958 The City Council of Euless, Texas, met in regular session on July 22, 1958, at 7:30 p.m. Present were Mayor Ernest Mi ll ican, Jr., Councilmen Paul Horton, Albert Tillery, Bobby Fuller and K 0. Murray. 1. Mr. Root, Manager and Mr. Jordan, Engineer, of the Texas Power and Light Company, appeared before the City Council with reference to street lighting. Mr. Root stated that the Texas Power and Light Company records did not show that they had any lights ordered for the City of Euless. Mr. Root suggested that the Texas Power and Light Company engineers make a survey and submit to the City Council a proposal for lighting Highway 183 within the city limits of Euless. In the proposal they would suggest where the street lights should be placed to be most effective, and the City Council could then carry out this plan as far as they could afford, later adding more as they were able to. The City Council after discussion decided to install the following lights immediately: 1. Dobkins Drive & Highway 183 (Old Minters Chapel Road). 2. Puckett Road - west of Puckett Gulf Station & Highway 183, on west side of the street. 3. South Main and Pipeline Road. 4. North Main and Harwood Streets. This light to be moved from North Main. 5. Front of Church of Christ on Pipeline Road. 6. Henslee and Sunset Drive. 7. Vine and Whitener. 8. Henslee and Mi tener. 9. Cannon and Whitener. 10. Bayless Road and Highway 183. A motion was made by Councilman Fuller, seconded by Councilman Murray, that this street lighting plan be approved. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion. 2. The Dog Warden, Joe Harvey, appeared before the C i t y Council asking them to obtain a 22 r i f l e to shoot dogs with. He stated that some dogs could not be aaught and that he would have to shoot them from a distance too far for a pistol to be effective. Councilman Horton stated that he thought he had a s i n g l e shot 22 r i f I e that he could use. Councilman Horton made a motion, seconded by Councilman Murray, that the City pay the Dog Warden $4.25 for a box of shells that he had bought for his pistol. All Councilmen voted in favor of this motion. 3• A motion was made by Councilman T i I I e r, seconded by Councilman Horton to extend the Dog Warden's contract one extra week at the present rate of pay per week for this extra week in order that his contract w i I I expire just before the next meeting of the City Council when some decision w i I I be made about a new contract. The vote in favor of this motion was unanimous. Paae Two. Reaular Meetina, Euless Citv Council, July 22, 1958 5. The City of Euless received a written request from Midway Park Developers that the two tracts of land, legal description below, be taken into the City of Euless, Texas. Tract No. 1 . Beginning at a p o i n t in 'the West l i n e of North Main Street (Euless- Grapevine Road) in the present line of the city limits, said beginning point being 404.6 feet South 00 deg. 35 minutes West from the Southwest corner of the Midway Park Addition to the City of Euless, Texas. Thence 4. 00 degrees 35 Considerable discussion by the City Council about how to get the new fire truck to Euless - who would pick it up and what it would cost to get it to Euless. Councilman Paul Horton was asked to find out what it would cost to have it delivered to Euless by being brought here loaded on another truck. 35 minutes 5. The City of Euless received a written request from Midway Park Developers that the two tracts of land, legal description below, be taken into the City of Euless, Texas. Tract No. 1 . Beginning at a p o i n t in 'the West l i n e of North Main Street (Euless- Grapevine Road) in the present line of the city limits, said beginning point being 404.6 feet South 00 deg. 35 minutes West from the Southwest corner of the Midway Park Addition to the City of Euless, Texas. Thence South 00 degrees 35 minutes West 300.0 feet; Thence North 89 degrees 25 minutes West 309.0 feet; Thence North 00 degrees 35 minutes East 150.0 feet; Thence South 88 degrees 33 minutes East 159.0 feet; Thence North 00 degrees 35 minutes East 150.0 feet; Thence South 88 degrees 33 minutes East 150.0 feet to the point of beginning. Tract 2. Beginning at a point in the West Line of North Main Street (The Euless- Grapevine Road) in the present l i n e of the city limits, said beginning point being 764.6 feet South 00 degrees 35 minutes West from the Southwest corner of the Midway Park Addition to the City of Euless, Texas; Thence South 00 degrees 35 minutes West 125.0 feet; Thence North 89 degrees 25 minutes West 309.0 feet; Thence North 00 degrees 35 minutes East 129.67 feet; Thence South 88 degrees 33 minutes East 309.0 feet to the point of beginning. A motion was made by Councilman Horton and seconded by Councilman Fuller, to approve this request for annexation to the City of Euless, Texas. The vote in favor was unanimous. 6. The Mayor stated that City Attorney W. L. Bondurant was writing Mrs. Floyd G. Chapman that she was violating City Ordinance No. 33 by operating a beauty shop from her home at 100 Fannin Street, Midway Park Addition, and what the penalties were for this violation. A copy of the letter going to the Midway Park Developers. 7. A motion was made by Councilman Horton, and seconded by Councilman Murray, to buy a larger air conditioner for the City Secretary's office as the one we have is too small to cool two offices. The vote in favor of this motion was unanimous. City Secretary Mayor 8. A motion was made by Councilman Tillery, and seconded by Councilman Fuller, to give Chief of Police W. M. Sustaire two weeks vacation starting August 2, 1958. The vote is favor was unanimous. A motion was made by Councilman Fuller and seconded by Councilman Horton to adjourn.
