HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-04-07Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board April, 07, 2025 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 6:00 PM. On Monday, April, 07, 2025, in the Pre Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Laird Leavoy and Gabriel Rosas. Members absent: Magen Brown. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Duane Strawn, Assistant Parks and Community Service Director Elizabeth Johnson, Parks Manager Randy Leach, Parks at Texas Star Rec Specialist/Analyst Cassandra Purcell, Aquatics/Senior Superintendent Richard Sharnsky, Recreation Superintendent Alex Harvey and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. Visitors present: None present INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. e • • : OVIrA111•]AAiI10toil9*1 Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the March 03, 2025 regular meeting. Roger Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by John Raab. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Magen Brown —J.A. Carr & Kiddie Carr: Not present. b. Steve Doty — Bob Eden & Trailwood: No items to report. c. John Raab — Preserve & McCormick: No items to report. d. Roger Sickler — VOBC & Reflection: No items to report. e. Michael Dayton — West Park & Wilshire: Not present. f. Laird Leavoy— Midway & Blessing Branch: No items to report. g. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Roger Sickler reported the following for March 2025: a. Total man hours for March 111- 3111 = 529 • 232 Horticulture • 136 Forestry • 153 Greenhouse • 0 Special Projects • 8 Training ➢ Trimmed branches overhanging house that backs up to Bob Eden Park ➢ Removed dead trees at J.A. Carr Park, West McCormick and Villages Bears Den ➢ Stump grinded at J.A. Carr and West McCormick ➢ Stepped up Arbor Daze trees at old greenhouse and cleaned up tree line III. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Athletics Report — Sandy Purcell • 95 Baseball League Teams, 308 Baseball Tournament Teams in March, 123 Softball League Teams, and 29 Softball Tournament Teams in March. • Track Registration has opened and will be open until May 13, 2025. Practices will start in June and will be taking place at Central Jr. High. b. Parks Report — Randy Leach • The Home Plate at Bob Eden has been replaced and dirt has been added. • The Snake Race on the playground at Bob Eden was vandalized. The toy has been fixed differently in hopes that this doesn't happen again. • Trees were trimmed that were over hanging from the Bob Eden into the neighbors' homes. • Tree work was done at J.A. Carr. • Installation of flower bed and materials was done at Fire Station #2. Stone was added near the flag pole for stepping on while raising and lowering. • The Midway Park sign is now complete. • The greenhouse AC has been repaired. The evaporated coils have been replaced. • The new playground at Midway Park is now open. The playground is bigger with more offerings. A new swing bay with a disk swing has been added. • The playground at Parks at Texas Star South is open and being used regularly. The playground is much brighter and bigger. A mommy and me swing is on the swing bay and is highly utilized. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 • A new playground was installed at the Euless Family Life Center pre-school area. Turf was installed instead of the pour and place that was there before. c. Recreation Report —Alex Harvey • We are 19 days away from Arbor Daze at Glade Parks. This will be held on April 26, 2-025 from 10am-9pm. We are looking for judges for the food eating contest that will take place from 12:00pm-1:00pm. • Gone Country will be the band performing at the Concert in the Park on May 02, 2025 at Glade Parks from 6pm-8pm. This is an Alan Jackson Tribute band. • The Summer Playbook is now Live. • Abbey Road Trip performed at Glade Parks on March 14, 2025. Many people attended the concert. • The Lorax was played for Movie in the Park on March 21, 2025. Everyone had a great time. • The Euless Family Life Center held a paint party where one of our employees held instructional paint lessons. We allowed this for 13 years and up. We had a great turn out and hope to have this event again. • Spring Break was held and great time was had. • The staff set up at table at the Wellness Fair that the City hosts for employees. The Rec Center won most popular booth. d. Aquatics & Senior Center Report — Rich Sharnsky • The Aquatic Staff will be hosting the Easter Splash on April 12, 2025 in the Euless Family Life Center Natatorium starting at 9:00 am. There will be two age groups. There will be 5,000 eggs per age group. Also, there will be a balloon artist and glitter tattoos! There will be an entry fee of $10.00. • March was a great time for training. Lifeguards practiced rescue and other training to obtain certifications. • Jackson Davis one of our Recreation Assistants went to a job fair for HEB schools to recruit staff. • The Senior Center took a field trip to DJ's Alpaca's. • The Senior Center also held the Spring Fling. There were food trucks, Live music, many vendors and even a car show. • Euless Jams got together to "jam" out. This is a group of individuals that love music that get together and people come and listen. • The Easter Party for the Senior Center will take place on April 17, 2025. E. Directors Report — Duane Strawn • Michael Dayton has resigned from the Park Board. He thanked the City for the time he had on the board but will be moving out Euless and will not be able to fulfill his duties. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 3 • The Parks Open Space Master Plan has been approved by the City Council and is sitting with Texas Parks and Wildlife. • We have consultants reviewing South Euless Park, Phase VIII at PATS, J.A. Carr and Kiddie Carr as well as the Batting Cage area. • The next Park Board meeting will be held on May 05, 2025. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. IV. Other New Business No new items to report. V. Input from Citv Council Members and Visitors No City Council Members or Visitors present. ADJOURNMENT Chairman Jones gave the benediction.
