structure and provides a rejuvenated driving surface.
Surface Treatments are planned for the following streets: Ash Lane, Trojan Trail,
Cullum Drive, Greenbriar Drive, Crowe Drive, Copher Court, Dickey Drive, Hilton
Drive, Fuller Drive, Town Creek Drive, Bell Drive, Chestnut Oak Court, Eden Trail,
Witten Court, Erwin Drive, Mack Drive, Balsam Drive, Hollywood Boulevard,
Denton Drive, Travis Drive, Caraway Lane, Donley Drive, and Lamar Drive. The
Street Division also plans to overlay the following roads: Huitt Lane, Ascot Drive,
Boxwood Court, Sandlewood Lane, and South Ector Drive. Lastly, Public Works
in collaboration with Tarrant County plan to overlay the following locations: South

Surviving the Summer Heat
Summer in Texas can be brutal. It can even be
hazardous to your health, especially if you experience
any of these heat -related illnesses: heat cramps, heat
exhaustion and heat stroke.
Heat cramps are involuntary muscle spasms thatusually
occur during heavy exercise in hot temperatures. Heat
exhaustion happens when your body overheats; its
symptoms may include heavy sweating, dizziness,
nausea, headache or rapid pulse. If left untreated, heat
exhaustion can become heat stroke, a life -threatening
condition. A result of long, extreme exposure to the
sun, heat stroke can develop rapidly when your body is
unable to cool itself, and requires immediate medical
treatment. Heat stroke symptoms include confusion,
slurred speech, loss of consciousness, seizures, hot
dry skin or profuse sweating.
Below are some helpful tips to help prevent heat -
related illnesses:
• Do outdoor activities during the coolest part of the
day, in the early morning or evening.
• Exercise in an air-conditioned space, or do
water workouts.
• Try to stay in the shade when outdoors during
peak sunlight.
• Drink plenty of liquids, such as water or sport
drinks with balanced electrolytes, and avoid drinks
that contain alcohol or caffeine.
• Wear protective clothing, such as hats, lightweight
long -sleeve shirts and long pants to block out the
sun's harmful rays. Choose light-colored,
loose -fitting clothing.
• Use sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB
radiation. Choose a sun protection factor (SPF) of
at least 15, preferably 30. Reapply frequently.
• Use sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB.
Like people, too much time in extreme heat can be
dangerous for_pets. Pets with flat faces like Pugs and
Persian cats, elderly animals, and overweight pets are
more susceptible to heat stroke.
Heat safety tips for pets:
• Don't leave pets in vehicles.
• Keep water bowls filled with fresh water.
• Limit outdoor activities.
• Keep paws off hot surfaces.
• Provide shade for outdoor pets, or better yet,
bring them inside an air-conditioned building
Follow these tips when it's hot outside, so that you,
your family and your pets can enjoy this summer in
good health.
World's Largest
Swimming LessonTM
Thursday, June 26,10 -10:30 a.m.
Euless Family Life Aquatic Park
300 Midway Drive
Be apart of the World's Largest Swimming LessonTM,
as it brings together tens of thousands of individuals
from around the globe to participate in the same
lesson on June 26. The goal is to raise awareness
about drowningand the fact that swimming is a vital
life-saving skilthat every child should learn.
The World Health Organization estimates drowning
is one of the top five causes of death for people ages
1-14. In addition, children ages 1-4 have the highest
drowning rates. Participation in formal swimming
lessons can reduce the risk of drowning among
children ages 1-4 years by up to 88%.
As a participant in the World's Largest Swimming
LessonTM, the City of Euless is teaching a 30-minute
swimming lesson to various age groups. This is
a free event, but registration is required. For more
information and to register for this event, call 817-
685-1681.
Mosquito Treatments
It's summer and mosquitoes thrive in hot weather.
Besides being irritating, they can also spread disease,
such as West Nile virus, Zika virus and the St. Louis
encephalitis virus.
The City of Euless traps mosquitoes weekly in
different locations. Tarrant County then tests those
mosquitoes for diseases. If a mosquito is positive
for mosquito -borne illnesses, the City will then
spray that zone for mosquitoes. Mosquito spraying
is typically done after 9 p.m. when most people are
indoors. Spraying will not take place if it's raining,
or the wind speed is greater than nine mph. During
the spraying, you do not need to do anything special,
since the spray droplets falling on the ground become
inactive in just a few hours or with sunshine (UV
light).
For advanced email notifications of mosquito
spraying in your zone, visit www.eulesstx.gov/
enotification and enroll in Community Alerts. For
general questions or concerns regarding mosquitoes,
call Public Works at 817-685-1580.
