AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING CERTAIN MINIMUM STANDARDS REGULATING
THE INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL WIRING AND APPARATUS IN THE
CITY OF EULESS ADOPTING THE 1990 VERSION OFTHE NATIONAL
ELECTRICAL CODE; MAKING CERTAIN AMENDMENTS TO SAID CODE AND
TO OTHER ELECTRICAL REGULATIONS; PROVING A SEVERABILITY
CLAUSE; REPEALING THE EXISTING ELECTRICAL CODE AND ALL
AMENDMENTS THERETO; PROVIDING A PENALTY AND AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
14MMS, the City of Euless has experienced and is experiencing a rapid
increase in residential, conoercial and industrial building and construction
and
WIRRM, such rapid increase in the volume of building and construction has
emphasized a need for the revision of the Electrical Code; and
*RUMS, the Euless City Council deems it essential to protect the lives,
safety, and property of its citizens, to enact a comprehensive electrical
ordinance,

I.

The City of Euless hereby adopts the National Electrical Code, 1990 Edition, as
now existing or as hereinafter amended, as the standard for electrical wiring
requirements for the City of Euless.
Meter installations shall comply with the specifications of the utility company
furnishing power. The utility company furnishing power shall have the right to
designate service entrance locations.
II.
Subsections (d), (k) and (n) of Section 4-75, "Electrical wiring requirements"
of Article IV "Electrical Regulations" of Chapter 4, "Buildings and Structures"
of the Code of Ordinances, City of Euless, Texas, as amended, are hereby
amended to be and read as follows:
(d) Service mast through the roof for overhead service from meter socket must
be 2" galvanized rigid conduit or larger with no coupling or fitting
between the weatherhead and meter socket.
(k) All electrical panels or meters on frame shall be mounted on 2" x 4" board
backing and in installations on Dick veneer lead anchors must be used.
No electrical panels or electric boxes shall be mounted on opposite side
of walls of bathtub or shower enclosures.
(n) All open lights in clothes closets in existing residences at the time of
any remodel or service change, shall be upgraded to clot N.E.C.
requirements.

A. Article 331-4 is hereby amended by the addition of a new paragraph (9)
thereto, which shall hereafter be and read as follows:
(9) Above the foundation slab in all buildings except for residential
houses and apartment houses.
B. Article 518-4 is hereby amended by the deletion therefrom of Exception
Number 1.
IV.
SBVERABI M CLAMS
That it is hereby declared to be the intention of the City Council that
sections, paragraphs, sentences, clause and phrases of this Ordinance are
severable, and if any phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or section of this
Ordinance shall be declared invalid or unconstitutional by the valid judgement
or decree of any court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity or
unconstitutionality shall not affect any of the remaining phrases, clauses,
sentences, paragraphs and sections of this Ordinance, since the same would have
been enacted by the City Council without the incorporation in this Ordinance of
any such invalid or unconstitutional phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or
section.
V.
OIL MIM ABPFALED
Ordinance No. 943 and all Ordinances amendatory thereto, to the extent same may
be in conflict herewith, are expressly superseded by the terms of this
Ordinance. Electrical Permits heretofore issued under existing Ordinances
shall be valid for the time for which they were issued under the existing
Electrical Ordinance. However, upon expiration of said date, the same become
void.
All pending litigation and existing violations, both civil and criminal,
whether pending in courts or not, under the Electrical Ordinance and
amendments, therefore superseded by this Ordinance, shall not be affected by
this Ordinance, but may be prosecuted until final disposition by the courts.
VI.
PENAMY FOR VIOLATUM
Any person, firm, or corporation violating any of the provisions of this
article shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and the person, firm or
corporation, or an employee, an agent, manager, or officer thereof, shall be
fined in any amount not less than twenty-five ($25.00) dollars nor more any the
maximum provided in Section 1-6 of this Code for fire safety and public health
provision violations for each offense, and every violation and each and every
day's failure or refusal to comply with said provisions will constitute a
separate offense, and in case of willful or continued violation by any person,
firm or corporation as aforesaid, or their agents, employees, servants or

officers, the city shall have the power to revoke and repeal any license under
which said person, firm or corporation may be acting, and revoke all permits,
privileges and franchises granted to said person, firm or corporation
aforesaid.
VII.
EFFECTIVE DATE
This Ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, as provided by the Euless City Charter and the laws of the
State of Texas.
PRESERM AND PASSED CH FIRSP AMID FINAL READING at a regular meeting of the
Euless City Council on the 25th day of August , 1992, by a
vote of 7 ayes and 0 nays, and 0 abstentions.
