HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-06-02Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board June, 02,2025 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 6:00 PM. On Monday, June,02, 2025, in the Pre-Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, and Laird Leavoy. Members absent: Magen Brown and Gabriel Rosas. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Duane Strawn, Assistant Parks and Community Service Director Elizabeth Maddox, Aquatics/Senior Superintendent Richard Sharnsky, Recreation Superintendent Alex Harvey and Administrative SecretaryJodie Dunn. Visitors present: Brenda Dyer INVOCATION APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the May 05, 2025 regular meeting. Roger Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Steve Doty. The vote was unanimous. l. Board Member Reports a. Magen Brown -J.A. Parks and Communitv Services Reports a Recreation Report - Alex Harvev a Art in the Park - Saturday, June 7th,2025. Event will be from Bam-l"Oam at Wilshire Park. Canines and Coffee - Saturday, June 28th, 2025. Event will be from 7:30am- 9:30am at the Bear Creek Dog Park. Bridging Generations - Saturday, July L2th,2025. Event will be from 10:00am- 11":30am at the Euless Family Life Center. Summer Scavenger Hunt - Saturday, July 19th, 2025. Event will be held from 8:00am-4:00pm at various locations. Euless Splash Down - Saturday, July 26th,2025. Event will be held from 9:30am- 11:30am at the Euless Family Life Center. Rubber Duck Regatta - Saturday, August 2"d,2025. Event will be held from 1L:00am-12:00pm at the Euless Family Life Aquatic Park. Nerf Wars - August 8th,2025. Event will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Euless Family Life Center. The Parks and Community Services department participated in the HEB Reads event that the Library also participates in. The staff handed out Sandy Candy to the participants and talked to about 1000-1500 people. The Summer Camp Staff has been doing training, making schedules and planning projects. They have also trained on CPR and First Aid. a o a a a a a a d.Aquatics & Senior Center Re oo rt - Rich Sharnskv a The Aquatic Staff has been in full training for the summer days at the Aquatic Park. They have had orientation, Lifeguard Classes and have also collaborated with the Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 Euless Fire Department for training. They also do scenario training with the Fire Department. o Employee Family Fun Day was held on May 23'd from 3pm-7pm. This is time for employees to bring family members to enjoy the Aquatic Park but also a first day of training for the Lifeguards with the park being open to others. o The Euless Family Life Aquatic Park will open on May 24th. o World's Largest Swim Lessons will be held on June 26,2025. o The Senior Center held a Mother's Day Tea and Fashion Show on May 09, 2025 starting at 10:00am. A few of our very own employees participated in the fashion show as well. o The Senior Center held a meet our Sr. Artists event on May 75,205 from 5:00pm- 6:00pm. This was a way to meet and celebrate the talented members (artists), snack and chat about their talented work. o The Senior Center started their Guess That? Summer Lunch events. The first Guess That? Lunch took place on May 22, 2025 at 1-2:00pm. The First event was Guess that Taco where tacos from 6 different locations were purchased and the participates had to guess where they came from. o The Senior Center Father's Day lunch will be held on June 13, 2025 starting at 12:00pm. o The Senior Center will also be hosting a Summer Western Dance on June 26,2025 starting at 5:00pm. Put on those boots and boogie down for a dinner and dance. E. Directors Report - Duane Strawn o Re-Appointment Applications will be distributed to members whose terms are set to expire in2025. lf you are interested in continuingto serve, please complete and sign the reappointment application and turn in no later than July LLth,2025. o The PATS South restroom will be going out to bid soon. o PATS North split rail and landscape is complete. o Wilshire Park will be getting shade soon with PATS South and Midway Park to follow. o A reminder that there will be no meeting in July. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. IV.
