HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-12-04EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY BOARD THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2025 ITEM NO. 1 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Library Board was called to order by Vice Chairperson Jim Hamilton at 6:31 p.m. on Thursday, December 4,2025, in the Conference Room of the library located at 201 N. Ector Drive. Those present included: Vice Chairperson Jim Hamilton, Board Members Wanda Peach, John Lentini, Philip Tedone, Al Devani and Chris McAllister. Chairperson Jorge Chac and Board Member Rochelle Ragas were not present. STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT Angela Jones, Interim Library Director Susan Wedding, Librarian Laney James, Administrative Assistant VISITORS No visitors were present. ITEM NO.2 APPROVAL OF LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES Vice Chairperson Hamilton asked for a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held on November 6,2025. The motion was made by Mr. Lentini and seconded by Mr. Devani. All were in favor and the motion carried. ITEM NO.3 WELCOME VISITORS Vice Chairperson Hamilton welcomed Ms. Wedding. ITEM NO.4 LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT * Library Update Ms. Jones reviewed the latest monthly statistical summary and gave an overview of the Gale Interactive: Science digital resource available through the library's TexShare database. Ms. Jones also shared three recent stories of impact. Ms. Jones gave the Board an overview of the programming team's planning process, including how events are developed, the age groups served, and the library's continued focus on early childhood education through its Family Place designation. Ms. Jones also explained the structure of the volunteer program, outlining the responsibilities expected of volunteers and the skills the program aims to develop such as responsibility and time management. Mr. Hamilton inquired about the scavenger hunts offered at the library. Ms. Jones and Ms. Wedding explained how the scavenger hunts are distributed throughout the building and noted that staffare provided with an answer key to help patrons as needed. Ms. Jones discussed the popularity of several programs, Library Board Minutes, Thursday, December 4,Page 1 of 2 Library Board Minutes, Thursday, December 4,Page 2 of 2 highlighted key community partnerships, and outlined the various outreach efforts the programming team conducts with city departments and local schools. Ms. Wedding gave the Board a rundown of programs and events that are being planned for the new fiscal year. Ms. Wedding explained that the program planning period correlates with the city's fiscal year, which begins in October. Ms. Wedding reviewed the library's regularly scheduled programs as well as special events being planned, including targeted age ranges and the types ofactivities involved. * Classes and Events Update Ms. Jones gave an overview of upcoming classes and events, including scheduled holiday closures, an Interview Skills Class, a jaz:z performance by Marisa Cravero, Silent Book Club, Letters to Santa, and a Winter Scavenger Hunt. Ms. Wedding also provided a show-and-tell of the library's new Charlie Cart. ITEM NO.5 REPORTS * Library Board Vice Chairperson Vice Chairperson Hamilton spoke of his experience with libraries growing up compared to the programs the Euless Library does. Mr. Hamilton asked for a motion to move the next meeting to the 8th of January due to the library closure on the 1st. The motion was made by Ms. Peach and seconded by Mr. Lentini. Ms. Jones informed the Board that she will not be in attendance as she has a prior commitment. Mr. Hamilton inquired if the library will be participating in the Parade of Lights, so Ms. Jones confirmed participation and invited the Board to walk with the float. Ms. Wedding shared that the theme for the parade is classic Christmas movies. Mr. Hamilton informed the Board that the Euless Today newsletter has gone digital so those interested in receiving it will need to subscribe to it online. Ms. Jones added that a small quantity of paper copies will temporarily be available at a few city departments, including the library. Mr. Hamilton reminded the Board that the next Euless Town Hall meeting will be on January 15 at7 p.m. t Library Board Members Mr. McAllister suggested a series that he recently found on the Hoopla platform called The Great Courses.
