Euless Mayor Linda Martin does a PSA for the American Lung Cancer Screening
Initiative. Martin is stepping down this May after more than 20 years on the City Council
and more than 10 as mayor. She made her announcement in a statement read by City
Manager Chris Barker during a Jan. 15 town hall.
Linda Martin, longtime mayor of Euless, has decided against seeking reelection th is
spring, but she’s put in a word with the voters for the current council.
“We do have a tremendous council,” Martin said at the end of the council’s Jan. 15 town
hall meeting, where she announced she had decided not to seek reelection in May.
“We’ve worked together all these years, and we haven’t had a disagreement one.
“And if we do,” she continued, “we go in the back room, we get over it, and we come out
of that room, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. We truly love working
together, and you’re very fortunate that these folks have chosen to run again, because
you’ve got a ready-made experienced council right here.”
After Martin’s announcement, Mayor Pro Tem Tim Stinneford announced he planned to
seek election as mayor.
“I’ve had the pleasure of serving under two incredible mayors,” Martin and her
predecessor Mary Lib Saleh, said Stinneford, who filed his paperwork the next day to
seek Martin’s seat in the May 2 election.
Stinneford, the only candidate in the mayoral race so far, joked that he was talked into
running for City Council by Martin’s late husband, Don, who undersold the position as
taking up little time.
“We all get along; this council is incredible,” said Stinneford, adding his goals as mayor
would be to maintain progress and “not drive it in the ditch.”
Besides mayor, Euless’ Council Place 2 and Place 4 seats are up for election May 2.
Candidate filing opened Jan. 14 and closes at 5 p.m. Feb. 13.
Place 2 council member Jeremy Tompkins has filed to seek reelection. Place 4 council
member Perry Bynum has also filed to seek reelection and has drawn an opponent, Lee
Ann Folau. Under city charter, Stinneford’s seat would be filled by a special election
after it becomes vacant.
Martin was elected to the council in 2004 and as mayor in 2014. In her announcement
that she would step down, she said the death of her husband, Don, last year had
prompted deep reflection.
“I’ve come to realize that this is a time in my life when I need to focus on myself and on
healing,” she said in a statement read by City Manager Chris Barker.
Martin said she would continue to live in Euless and remain active in the community.
Martin was elected to the City Council in 2004 and as mayor in 2014. She worked 35
years for American Airlines and then became active in Euless.
She is a member of the Euless Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and was a
charter member of the Citizens Fire Academy. In 2021, she received the Clyde Mooney
Award from the HEB Chamber of Commerce, the chamber’s highest honor.
In 2024, the Northeast Leadership Forum gave her its 2023 Distinguished Leader
Award. Martin also is chair of the Euless Development Corp., a board member of the
HEB Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Northeast Leadership Forum.
