HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026-08The Animal Services Facility at 1517 Westpark Way has undergone a year-long renovation and expansion to better serve the community. Originally constructed in 1978 as a Fleet Service Center, the building was repurposed in 1998 as a fire station. In 2025, Fire Station No. 2 was relocated to a newly constructed facility at 2301 West Pipeline Road. With the fire station vacating the site, the City moved forward with plans to transform the entire building into an expanded Animal Services Facility. The renovated space now spans nearly 14,000 square feet—approximately five times larger than the previous shelter—and is designed to meet the community’s growing needs. The upgraded facility includes additional kennels and holding areas for a variety of animals, dedicated grooming and bathing spaces, and outdoor exercise and play areas. It also features thoughtfully designed “Get to Know” rooms, providing a comfortable environment for residents to meet and interact with adoptable pets. Residents are encouraged to visit the new facility and consider giving a pet a forever home.

Colleyville Independent School Districts
return to school on Wednesday, August
12. As our school zones become busier
with children walking, biking, and riding
to school, we ask everyone to help make
safety a top priority.
Behind the scenes, city staff have been
busy putting the finishing touches on the
proposed budget. Decisions will be made
on road repairs, parks, public safety, and
community programs, all while ensuring
the city remains financially sound,
continues to run smoothly, and meets the
needs of all our wonderful residents. As
we look ahead, I encourage you to stay
connected and watch for the many exciting
classes, activities, and community events
planned for the fall and winter months.
There is always something happening in

Operation Back 2 School:
Join the Volunteer Team
6 Stones is partnering with HEB ISD to help students start the school year with confidence. Operation Back 2 School provides free backpacks and school supplies for children in our community, serving more than 3,000 students each year.
Volunteers make this day possible by welcoming families, distributing supplies, and keeping the event running smoothly. Adults and students ages 16 and older are invited to serve in roles such as setup, distribution, and teardown.

Compete with your buddies or come solo as we transform the basketball gym into the ultimate Nerf arena. Preregistration is required for this event and cost is $10 per person. The Nerf guns, foam darts, and cover are included in the registration fee. Sign up to reserve your spot for an epic night!
Build-a-Boat Race

Teams will put their creativity and engineering skills to the test as they design and construct their very own cardboard boats using only the provided supplies - no shortcuts allowed. Once construction is complete, it’s time for the ultimate challenge: choosing a brave captain to hop aboard and race across the pool. Grab your crew, bring your best ideas, and see if your boat has what it takes to stay afloat. Cost is $10 per team of two, $5 for each additional teammate/spectator.

citizens for their services, accomplishments, and dedication that they have
given in their lifetimes. There will be a group picture and light snacks. The

Back-to-School Safety Reminders
With the first day of school on August 12, drivers should anticipate
increased traffic as children return to school. Kids walking to class or
boarding buses can be easily distracted, so it’s important to allow extra
time for your commute, and exercise additional caution in school zones
and residential areas.
To safely share the road with school kids, drivers should:
• Obey school zone speed limit signs.
• Put away cell phones.
• Obey crossing guards.
• Look for crosswalks and prepare to stop.
• Watch for children running between vehicles.
• Stop for flashing red lights or a stop sign on a school bus, regardless
of which direction you’re headed, as this is the law.
• Do not pass unless: the bus driver signals you to proceed, or the red
lights are no longer flashing.

The law requires you to call 811 to have buried utility lines located and marked. August 11 (8/11) serves as a reminder to always call 811 and your local municipality before digging. The 811 call center will coordinate with Atmos Energy, your electric company, and other utilities to mark utility-owned underground pipes and cables. Utility lines are marked with color-coded flags.
