Regular Meeting
Euless City Council
June 23, 1959
The regular meeting of the Euless City
Council was held on June 23, 1959. Present were Mayor Pro -tern Paul Horton,
Councilmen Bobby Fuller, Ross Ferris, Lee Roy Nix, and J. S. Anderson.
1.
Appearing before the City Council were Nt
Wray Brown and Nk Lee of the Southwestern Bell Telephone C i4mrry to discuss
with the City Council, direct dialing service between Euless and Fort Worth.
They stated that for Euless to get this service they would have to raise the
rates to the Fort Worth level. A motion was made by Councilman Anderson, and
seconded by Councilman Fuller, that this offer to give Euless direct dialing
service be accepted. Councilmen Anderson and Fuller voted in favor of the
motion and Councilmen Ferris and Nix voted against the motion. The motion
did 'not carry due to a tie vote.

Me Milton Karp and Mrs. W, E. Holt, re-
presenting the Nfidway Park Hine Owners Association, appeared before the City
Council stating that their association would dedicate a street, Park Drive,
from North Main Street through the park to Midway Drive, to the City for public
use if the City would provide the necessary street lights on this street
through the park area. A motion was made by Councilman Nix and seconded by
Councilman Ferris that this request be given tentative approval, contingent
upon the City Attorney being able to work out the legal difficulties in
connection with this request. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this
motion.

NIA Robert Baker, owner of the Euless Garage,
appeared before the City Council requesting permission to use a lot 75 feet
by 100 feet back of his garage for car storage instead of the lot that he is
using on the west side of his garage. I+ stated that he was planning to fence
this lot back of the garage which would enable him to lock up his cars and the
cars impounded for the police department where they would be safe. All Council -
nr,n present voted in favor of this motion.

A motion was made by Councilman Nix, and
seconded by Councilman Fuller, to approve the request of Nt Ross W. Smith to
construct driveway facilities on Highway 157 right -of -way approximately
0.1 mile south of the intersection of State Highway 183 and Farm to Market
Highway 157 on the east side of FM157. This driveway shall have asphalt surface
and a 24" reinforced concrete pipe shall be used. This request having been
previously approved by the State Highway Department. All Councilmen present
voted in favor of this motion.

A motion was made by Councilman Anderson,
and seconded by Councilman Nix, to approve and adopt Ordinance No. 111.
Ordinance No. 111 is defined as an anti - noise - nuisancemdinance. All
Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion.

A motion was made by Councilman Fuller, and
seconded by Councilman Anderson, that the city sign a contract with the Mid -
Cities Service Company to install a heating and air conditioning unit in the
council room to heat and air condition the council room,the police office,
and the City Secretary's office. Total cost to the City is $1275.00
completely installed, including attic insulation, $1000.00 to be advanced
when equipment is delivered and the balance of $275.00 to be paid when the
work is completed. The air conditioning unit to be of four -ton capacity.
All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion.

A motion was made by Councilman Nix, and
seconded by Councilman Anderson, that the application of Earl Stapleton for
position as night dispatcher and paid fireman to approved and that he be hired.
1t is to be paid $335.00 per month, plus $15.00 per month for being Fire Marshal
during the first six months while on probation, and if satisfactory at the end
of the probation he will be raised to $350.00 per month plus $15.00 per month
as Fire Marshal. Chief of Police Sustaire will outline his duties as dispatcher
in the police department. Fire Commissioner Nix will outline his duties in
the fire department. This to be effective July 1, 1959, and his salary will
start as of that date. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion.

A motion was made by Councilman Anderson,
and seconded by Councilman Nix, that the Euless Lumber Compaily be written a
letter asking them to cut the high grass and weeds around their lumber yard,
and that it was a violation of the city fire ordinance to stack lumber within
12 feet of a fire plug. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion.

A motion was made by Councilman Anderson,
and seconded by Councilman Nix, that George Z. Kidwell be employed as a
patrolman i n the police department and that his salary be set at $300.00 per
month during his six months probation, then he is to be raised to $325.00 per
month. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion.

This Council meeting has also been a public
hearing on the request of the Ralph Switzer, Joseph R. Duckett, and Warren
Fuller properties rezoning from "A" Single Family Dwelling to "LB" Local

This Council meeting has also been a public
hearing on the request of Rainbow Homes for Commercial "C" zoning from "A"
Single Family Dwellings on 9.038 acres of land in the E. Rogers Survey,
Abstract No. 1299. Legal description in motion number 2, council meeting of
May 26, 1959.
No citizen or interested parties appeared
i n connection with this matter.
The council meeting adjourned at 11:20 p.m.
