HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-01-12187 Regul a Meeting Euless City Council January 12, 1960 The regular meeting of the Euless City Council was held on January 12, 1960. Present were Mayor Ernest Millican, Jr., Councilmen Bobby Fuller, Ross Ferris, Lee Roy Nix, and 3. S. Anderson. Minutes o f the council meeting dated December 22, 1959, were read by the City Secretary, and approved by the Council. 1. The City Council discussed methods of taking a census of the people living within the city limits of Euless. It was decided that they would try to work out the best way to do this; get the forms mimeo- graphed before the next regular council meeting. 2. A motion was mace by Councilman Ferris, and seconded by Councilman Anderson, to make necessary arrangements with an insurance company that writes Workmen's compensation insurance to have a representative attend the next regular council meeting to discuss with the City Council a plan to cover all of the city employees, and the cost thereof. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion. 3. The City Council discussed the results of the meeting with the Hurst - Euless School Board with reference to furnishing the City of Euless tax information for the 1960 tax rolls. The information was that vie would have to pay one -half of the cost, which Xt Smith estimated to be about $4.00 per house. They are going to give us definite information on this cost. 4. A motion was made by Councilman Fuller, and seconded by Councilman Ferris, that two new Mercury Vapor street lights be installed. One at the exit off of Highway 183, east bound lane on to the Euless Boulevard service road just west of the City Hall. The other t o be a t the exit off of Highway 183 west bound traffic lane on to Euless Boulevard service road east of the blinker lights. All of the Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion. 5. A motion was made by Councilman Anderson, and seconded by Councilman Nix, that Councilman Ferris and Councilman Fuller be appointed a committee to purchase a filing cabinet with lock drawers and two chairs for the Police Department office. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion. (Regular Meeting , Euless City Counci 1 , January 12, 196 0) 91 A motion was made by Councilman Ferris, and seconded by Councilman Fuller, that the City Secretary be authorized to get an electrician to move the heating and cooling unit thermostat into the Police Department office. The City Secretary is authorized to issue keys to the council room to the following: one key to Mayor Millican; one key to Chief of Police W. M. Sustaire; one key to Fire Chief A.B. Gill; one key to remain with the City Secretary who is also to write a letter to each one informing them that chairs and furniture are not to be taken out of the council room and it is to be used for city business only and is to be locked each night. Three Councilmen voted in favor of this motion and one, Councilman Nix, voted against this motion. 7. Councilman Anderson discussed the condition of streets in Nfxhvay Park with the Council. U said that weather conditions had been so bad that repair work could not be made, and that he told Bob Brady that it would be better to wait until winter was over to repair these streets, other than to enlarge curb openings or make my ones to assist water drainage. R had not received the recommendations of W. A. Elliott, Jr., City Engineer yet. E:1 The City Council discussed the results of our sending out delinquent tax letters for 1958 taxes with City Attorney W. L. Bondurant. A motion was male by Councilman Anderson, and seconded by Councilman Fuller, that the City send out a second notice in about three weeks on these delinquent taxes. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion. 9. A motion was made by Councilman Fuller, and seconded by Councilman Ferris, to authorize City Attorney W. L. Bondurant to prepare an ordinance prohibiting anyone from leaving dirt, trash, rocks or any kin of rubbish on any street at any time within the City of Euless. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion. 10. A motion was mach by Councilman Fuller, and seconded by Councilman Ferris, that the Chief of Police W. M. Sustaire be authorized to have another door made for the jail at a cost not to exceed $100.00. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion. Attest: /s/ W. E.
