HomeMy WebLinkAbout156 09-26-1961ORDINANCE NO. 156 AN ORDINANCE CALLING AN ELECTION ON THE QUESTION OF FRAMING A HOME RULE CHARTER FOR EULESS; PROVIDING FOR AN ELECTION DATE, THE PLACE OF ELECTION AND THE ELECTION OFFICIALS; AND GENERAL PROVISION FOR THE CONDUCT OF SAID ELECTION. WHEREAS, under the authority granted by Section 5 of Article XI of the Constitution of Texas, and Chapter XIII of Title 28, Articles 1165 through 1182, Revised Civil Statutes of the State of Texas, cities actually containing more than 5,000 inhabitants may adopt a Home Rule Charter; and WHEREAS, at a Public Hearing held on August 1, 1961, it was determined by the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, that the population of the City of Euless, Texas, was approximately 5,490 people; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Euless has unanimously voted to hold a City Election, submitting to the residents of the City of Euless the question: Note RtL(.G "Shall a Commission be chosen to frame a rtc-w Charter?" NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF the City of Euless, Texas: I. That the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, at a regular meeting held this date, does hereby order an election to be held on Saturday, the 18th day of November, 1961, for the purpose of submitting the question, "Shall a Commission be chosen to frame a Charter for the City of Euless?" Home- Rui-e- II. For the purposes of said election, the entire City is hereby constituted one voting precinct; the polling place for said election shall be in the City Hall within said City, and said election shall be held between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. on the aforementioned date, and the following persons are hereby appointed to act as election officers: Mrs. Laverne Horton, Election Judge Mrs. Evelyn Dunn, Clerk Mrs. Horace Booher, Clerk Mrs. Dale Tribble, Clerk Mrs. E. B. Anderson, Clerk Mrs. Juanita Haynes, Clerk III. The ballot to be used in said Election shall be prepared in the manner and form provided for by the Election Code of the State of Texas enacted by the 1951 Legislature, and further, pursuant to the provisions of Article Title 28, Articles 1165 through 1182, Revised Civil Statutes of the State of Texas. Such ballot shall specifically contain the question, "Shall a Commission be chosen to frame a-F/W- Charter for the City of Euless ?" NOME KkAe IV. All qualified voters within the meaning of the Constitution and Laws of the State of Texas, who have resided in the State of Texas for a period of one year, and in the City of Euless for a period of six months prior to the date of the election herein provided for shall be entitled to vote at such election. V. Votin by absentee ballot in said election shall commence on the _ A(,? elections as provided by Title 28, of the Revised Civil Statutes of Texas and Title 50, of the Revised Civil Statutes of the State of Texas.
