HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-10-05 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board October 5,2015 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2015, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Eric Owens. Other board members present: Randy Jones, Steve Doty, Tiffany Smith, Jason Reyes, Salman Bhojani. Members absent:John Raab and Roger Sickler. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, Senior Center Coordinator Renee Frizzell and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Loretta Doty, Marilyn Buehler, Barbara Headley. INVOCATION Randy Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the September 14, 2015 regular meeting. Mr. Doty made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Reyes. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty—Heritage Park&S. Euless—No items to report. b. Randy Jones—Preserve& McCormick Park—No items to report. c. John Raab—West Park&Wilshire—Not present. d. Tiffany Smith—Villages of Bear Creek& Reflection—No items to report. e. Roger Sickler- Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr—Not present. f. Jason Reyes—Midway Park& Blessing Branch—No items to report. g. Salman Bhojani—Bob Eden Park&Trailwood—No items to report. h. Chairman Owens—Parks at Texas Star—No items to report. i. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events: • September 19—Stars Over Euless—Cancelled due to weather • September 25—Concert in the Park—Les Elgart Orchestra—175 people • October 3—TX Junior Anglers at Wilshire Pond—125 people Upcoming Events • October 31—Trunk or Treat at EFLAP Parking Lot 4 pm—6:30 pm • December 5—Christmas Parade of Lights 6:30 pm • December 12—Heritage Park Christmas at Heritage Park 1 pm—5 pm Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 II. Volunteer of the Month a. Chairman Owens announced the October 2015 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Ruben Hernandez. Mr. Hernandez has been helping volunteer for special events for many years off and on. Recently, he has been instrumental in helping with the concerts in the park and movies in the park. He is always a willing participant and never hesitates to help Jerry with anything he needs. Mr. Hernandez was not present for the meeting, his award will be delivered to him. III. Beautification Award of the Month a. Chairman Owens announced that the October 2015 Residential Beautification Award of the Month goes to Doug & Dana Goyer at 514 Holliday Lane. This corner lot always looks its best with many variations of flowers and trees.They continually keep the yard green and edged. Mr. & Mrs. Goyer were not present to accept their award, it will be delivered to them. b. Chairman Owens announced the October 2015 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification Award of the Month goes to Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints at 200 Fair Oaks Blvd. This property has always been maintained to the highest standard. Bushes and trees always kept trimmed and neat. They also ensure that it is kept clear of any trash or clutter, to maintain a clean appearance. Church of Jesus Christ Latter- day Saints was not present to accept their award, it will be delivered to them. IV. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Tiffany Smith reported the following for September: a. Total man hours for September 1-30=545 hours • 215.00 Horticulture • 175.00 Forestry • 109.00 Greenhouse • 00.00 Special Projects • 46.0 Training ➢ Trimmed trees on Cullum Dr. ➢ Trimmed trees in School Zones for beginning of school. ➢ Trimmed trees on Harwood Drive. ➢ Removed tree limbs at Trailwood and Villages of Bear Creek Park. ➢ Trimmed tree branches on Mid-Cities Blvd. medians. Staff Report—Renee Frizzell • Background of job history. • Overview of duties and programming at current Euless Family Life Senior Center. b. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson • Senior Holiday Lunch at Senior Center November 18 at 11:30 am. • All outdoor aquatic facilities closed—maintenance beginning. c. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald • Shade canopy's at South Euless Park have been installed. • Charlie Miller Way dedication,Thursday, October 5, 6:00 pm at PATS. Chairman Owens thanked them for their reports. VI. Other New Business No new Business. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors Ms. Buehler and Ms. Headley commented on the programs offered at the Euless Family Life Senior Center. ADJOURNMENT Chairman Owens gave the benediction.
