OF THE
EULESS ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY BOARD
SEPTEMBER 30, 2015
ITEM 1 — CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Euless Animal Shelter Advisory Board was called to order by
Director of Public Works and Engineering Hal Cranor at 11:30 A.M. at the City of Euless
Public Works Facility, 1513 Westpark Way, Euless, Texas 76040.
The following members were in attendance:

ITEM 2 — REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES FROM MEETING OF JULY 29, 2015
Director Cranor asked if there were any comments or questions regarding the minutes
of July 29, 2015. With no questions or comments, the minutes were accepted as written.
It was agreed upon that Director Cranor would lead the ASAB meetings in lieu of
assigning a Chair Person.
ITEM 3 — UPDATE ON GAP
Animal Control Supervisor James reported on the GAP event held Saturday, September
26th. There were 10 dogs and 1 cat adopted out. They microchipped over 50 dogs,
vaccinated over 150 dogs, and raised $3,500 clear. Dr. Read suggested that we may be
able to get the microchips donated in the same way as Homeward Bound in Bedford..
Animal Control Supervisor James will talk to GAP leader, Stephanie Villa, about that
possibility.

ITEM 4 — GAP (GIRLS AWARENESS PROGRAM)
The City approached GAP with the idea to formalize their involvement with the shelter.
City Council has approved moving forward with signing agreement with GAP. Assistant
City Manager Chris Barker explained the details of the agreement between The City of
Euless and the GAP program. Dr. Read inquired about the type of training that
volunteers receive. Council member Bynum raised questions about shelter SOPs and
any safety concerns as they pertain to GAP volunteers.
ITEM 5 — SHELTER FACILITY UPDATE
Animal Control Supervisor James reported that the Animal Shelter has a new air
conditioning unit installed on the roof of the shelter and a new freezer was purchased to
replace the old one. Facility Foreman Kenny Spargur reported that the gate on the
outside play area will be replaced, the barbed wire around the outside holding area is to
be removed and replace with a similar, inexpensive material, and they will be talking to
Facilities about replacing some of the latches on the runs in the dog run area. Status of
sound proofing the back area of the shelter was discussed.
ITEM 6 — BOY SCOUT PROJECT
For Eagle Scout Project, a scout will be building three different structures for the dogs to
play on in the outside play area. He will also be cleaning up the trees and bushes on the
southeast and south sides.
ITEM 7 — PERSONNEL REPORT
Animal Control Supervisor James reported that on August 27th, Animal Control Officer
Jodan Shelton completed his Advanced ACO Training. On July 30th, Animal Control
Officer Richard Boatright received his Administrative ACO.
ITEM 8 — QUARTERLY REPORT
Quarterly reports will be available at the next Animal Shelter Advisory Board Meeting.
ITEM 9 — QUESTIONS / COMMENTS
Dr. Read offered the services of the Vet Techs in her office to train the new GAP
volunteers on animal handling, etc. if they are interested. Assistant Director of Public
Works Whitt requested the City provide a "start-up" packet for adoptive pet owners.
Animal Control Supervisor James indicated that the Animal Shelter already provides
one. Meeting dates for 2016 will be proposed at the next ASAB meeting. This will be
Animal Control Officer Michelle Watson's last year on the Board and a replacement
should be forthcoming.
