HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-11-02 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board November 2,2015 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Eric Owens. Other board members present: Randy Jones, John Raab, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, and Jason Reyes. Members absent:Tiffany Smith and Salman Bhojani Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, Athletic Supervisor John Douthit and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Loretta Doty, Irma Reyes, and David Osborn with BESA. INVOCATION Randy Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the October 5, 2015 regular meeting. Mr. Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Reyes. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty—Heritage Park&S. Euless—No items to report. b. Randy Jones—Preserve & McCormick Park—No items to report. c. John Raab—West Park&Wilshire—No items to report. d. Tiffany Smith—Villages of Bear Creek& Reflection—Not present. e. Roger Sickler- Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr—No items to report. f. Jason Reyes—Midway Park& Blessing Branch—No items to report. g. Salman Bhojani—Bob Eden Park&Trailwood—Not present. h. Chairman Owens—Parks at Texas Star—No items to report. i. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events: • October 31—Trunk or Treat—2,500 people ocoming Events • December 5—Christmas Parade of Lights 6:30 pm • December 12—Heritage Park Christmas at Heritage Park 1 pm—5 pm Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 11. Volunteer of the Month a. Chairman Owens announced the November 2015 Volunteer of the Month award goes to LuAnn Portugal. Ms. Portugal plays an important role in the success of our special events. She has helped on more than one occasion with the concerts in the park, the Daddy/Daughter Dance, and Stars Over Euless. She always comes in with a great attitude and willingness to take on whatever task assigned to her. Ms. Portugal was unable to attend the meeting, her award will be delivered to her. III. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Vice Chairman Randy Jones reported the following for October: a. Total man hours for October 1-31 =671 hours • 309.00 Horticulture • 201.00 Forestry • 121.00 Greenhouse • 00.00 Special Projects • 40.0 Training ➢ Removed six dead trees at J.A. Carr, Bob Eden, Villages at Bear Creek, and Blessing Branch Park. ➢ Trimmed trees at Police and Courts buildings. ➢ Trimmed trees at Parks at Texas Star Park. ➢ Assisted the C.P.R. program with tree pruning and cleaning. ➢ Removed limbs in Parks due to storm damage. IV. Athletic Reports a. Parks at Texas Star—John Douthit • Overview of 2015 season. • Discussed impact of weather on 2015 season. b. Bedford Euless Soccer Association—David Osborne • Overview of 2015 season and registration numbers. • Budget review for FY2015 and FY2016. V. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald • Senior Holiday Lunch will be November 18 at 11:30 am at the Senior Center. • Reminder of Christmas Parade on December 5 at 6:30 pm. • Presented update on various projects that were funded for FY16. Chairman Owens thanked them for their reports. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 VI. Other New Business December Park Board meeting will be held at the Park Department shop located at the Parks at Texas Star. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors No input from City Council or visitors. ADJOURNMENT Chairman Owens gave the benediction.
