HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-12-07 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board December 7, 2015 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 pm on Monday, December 7, 2015, at the Park Maintenance building by Chairman Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Randy Jones, Steve Doty, and Tiffany Smith. Members absent: Roger Sickler, Salman Bhojani, and Jason Reyes. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, Parks Superintendent Dan Dearborn, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Loretta Doty. INVOCATION Eric Owens gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the November 7, 2015 regular meeting. Mr. Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Raab. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty— Heritage Park & S. Euless—No items to report. b. Randy Jones—Preserve & McCormick Park—No items to report. c. John Raab—West Park & Wilshire— No items to report. d. Tiffany Smith —Villages of Bear Creek & Reflection —No items to report. e. Roger Sickler- Kiddie Carr &J.A. Carr—Not present. f. Jason Reyes— Midway Park & Blessing Branch — Not present. g. Salman Bhojani —Bob Eden Park &Trailwood —Not present. h. Chairman Owens— Parks at Texas Star—No items to report. i. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events: • November 18—Senior Holiday Luncheon —382 people • December 5—Christmas Parade of Lights—over 50 floats Upcoming Events • December 12—Heritage Park Christmas at Heritage Park 1 pm —5 pm • January 8— Euless Family Life Center Open House—all day • January 9—Christmas Tree Recycling 10 am — fpm at the Aquatic Park Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 II. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Tiffany Smith reported the following for November 2015: a. Total man hours for November = 869 • 274.00 Horticulture • 174.00 Forestry • 75.00 Greenhouse • 336.00 Special Projects • 0.00 Training • Planted a Pecan tree at Preserve at McCormick Park for 3rd annual Texas Arbor Day. • Removed tree at Midway Park from storm damage. • Removed tree at Village of Bear Creek Park. • Removed limbs and tree debris due to storm damage. Ill. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson • New Playbook has been released for spring; Registration began today. • New fitness equipment will be delivered December 18 and gym floor will be resurfaced over the holidays. • Discussed new towel service at recreation center and effects on membership fees. b. Community Services Report— Ray McDonald • Gave update on Green Ribbon Project. • Discussed the ADA project and construction beginning at City Hall. Chairman Owens thanked them for their reports. V.
