HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-08-2317 Regular Meeting Euless C i t y Council August 23, 1960 The regular meeting o f the Euless C i t y Council was held on August 23, 1960. Present were Mayor Ernest M i l l i c a n , Jr., Councilmen Bobby F u l l e r , Ross F e r r i s , H. M. Huffman, and Roy Braswell. The council meeting was opened w i t h a prayer by Councilman F e r r i s . 1. The minutes of the regular August 9, 1960, and the special c a l l e d meeting of August 1-, by the C i t y Secretary and approved by.-the Council. 2. The C i t y Council discussed council meeting o f 960, were read a proposed ord i nance governing t h e towing o f v e h i c l e s w i t h i n t h e c i t y l i m i t s o f Eu ess. I t was suggested t h a t P o l i c e Commissioner F e r r i s , Police Chief Sustaire, and C i t y Attorney Bondurant get together and work out changes discussed i n t h e c o u n c i l meet i ng . 3. A motion was made by Councilman Braswell, and seconded by Councilman F e r r i s , t o approve and adopt Ordinance No. 135. Ordinance No. 135 i s a Municipal Maintenance Ordinance and Municipal Maintenance Agreement between the C i t y o f Euless and the Texas Highway Department covering State Highway 183 and FM Highway 157 w i t h i n the corporate l i m i t s o f the C i t y of Euless. A l l Councilmen present voted i n favor of t h i s motion. 4. The C i t y Council discussed t r a f f i c and parking on Euless Boulevard i n f r o n t o f E Z Way Grocery and the Post O f f i c e , whether t o make t h i s section of Euless Boulevard p a r a l l e l or angle parking or t o make t h i s a one way s t r e e t . Councilmen F e r r i s , Huffman, and Braswell were appointed a committee t o study t h i s matter and make t h e i r recommendations a t the next r e g u l a r c o u n c i l meeting when some d e f i n i t e action can be taken and the Texas Highway Department so advised. The C i t y Secretary i s to n o t i f y M r . Hardy of the Texas Highway Department of t h i s action taken by the Council and that a t the next r e g u l a r c o u n c i l meeting we w i l l t r y to give him a d e f i n i t e answer about the p a r a l l e l parking signs. 5. A motion was made by Councilman F e r r i s , and seconded by Councilman F u l l e r , that the C i t y borrow $1700.00 from the I n t e r e s t and Sinking Fund Account i n the Hurst State Bank, t h i s i s to be credited t o the General Fund Account o f the C i t y o f Euless and i s to be repaid t o the I n t e r e s t and Sinking Fund when tax payments are received i n s u f f i c i e n t amounts that the General Fund can repay t h i s loan. A motion was made by Councilman F u l l e r , and seconded by Councilman Braswell, that the C i t y Secretary get someone t o cut the high grass and weeds around the C i t y Hall and F i r e Station immediately. A l l Councilmen present voted i n favor of t h i s motion. 7. A motion was made by Councilman Braswell, and seconded by Councilman F e r r i s , t h a t we send notices t o J. E. Morgan and t o J. F. McNaney who have received second notices about the high grass and weeds on t h e i r property creating a f i r e hazard from the F i r e Marshal. The C i t y Secretary i s authorized to n o t i f y them that charges w i l l be f i l e d i n -the Corporation Court unless t h e h i g h grass and weeds are cut on t h i s property w i t h i n f i v e days from the date of t h i s notice. A motion was made by Councilman Fuller, and seconded by Councilman Braswell, that the City Secretary get someone to cut the high grass and weeds around the City Hall and Fire Station immediately. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion. 7. A motion was made by Councilman Braswell, and seconded by Councilman Ferris, that we send notices to J. E. Morgan and to J. F. McNaney who have received second notices about the high grass and weeds on their property creating a fire hazard from the Fire Marshal. The City Secretary is authorized to notify them that charges will be filed in-the Corporation Court unless the high grass and weeds are cut on this property within five days from the date of this notice.
