HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-12-13Reg u 1 a r Meet i ng Euless City Council December 13, 1960 The regular meeting o f the Euless City Council was held on December 13, 1960. Present were Mayor Ernest M i l l i c a n , J r . , Councilmen Bobby F u l l e r , H. M. Huffman, and Roy Braswell. The council meeting was opened with a prayer by Councilman F u l l e r . The minutes of the regular council meeting o f November 22, 1960, and the special called meeting o f December 6, 1960, were read by the City Secretary and approved by the City Council. 1. A motion was made by Councilman F u l l e r t o approve the i n s t a l l i n g of incandescent street l i g h t s a t the following locations: Paula Lane and Pipeline Road, Suzan Street and Paula Lane i n Bell H i Addition, Jones Drive and Simmons Drive i n Oakwood Terrace Addition, Westwood Drive and F u l l e r Drive i n Westwood Addition. A l l Councilmen present voted i n favor o f t h i s motion. 2. The City Council discussed changes i n the c i t y j a i l . t o the council room, moving the back door i n the council room over t o where the southeast window i n the council room i s now located, closing up the opening where the door i s now, and t o furnish heat t o the j a i l by a combination e l e c t r i c heater and blower. Councilman Huffman and Chief of Police Sustaire w i l l investigate the cost o f making these changes and report back t o the council. It was decided to b u i l d connecting walls and roof attaching the j a i l 3 . The City Council discussed the purchase of a s u i t a b l e b u i l d i n g s i t e o f two or three acres f o r a new c i t y h a l l t o be b u i l t i n the future. It was suggested that each Councilman make a survey o f possible suitable sites and report back t o the Council. 4. The City Council received a request from Jerry M i d k i f f , Mobil Station, and the Euless Garage that they be permitted t o s e l l a few second-hand cars f o r banks at t h e i r place o f business. The City Secretary i s t o ask them t o put t h e i r request i n w r i t i n g . These requests were tabled at t h i s meeting. A motion was made by Councilman F u l l e r , and seconded by Councilman Braswell, that the Council meeting o f December 27, 1960, not be held on account of the Christmas holidays. The C i t y o f Euless received a request from a resident to purchase a q u a r t e r l y permit t o s e l l eggs from house to house i n Euless. The City Council decided that as our Peddler's Ordinance No. 105 requires that permits be taken out on a yearly basis, t h i s request could not be granted without amending t h i s ordinance and t h i s request could not be granted a t t h i s time. 7. The C i t y received a request from M r . John Lamar t o put a house t r a i l e r on the Tolbert Grocery l o t next to the c i t y h a l l t o be used as a real estate sales o f f i c e . The City Council decided t h a t t h i s i s not i n v i o l a t i o n o f any c i t y ordinance and the permission was granted. 8. A motion was made by Councilman F u l l e r , and seconded by Councilman Huffman, that the C i t y enter i n t o a contract w i t h a Motorola Communications and Electronics, Inc., of Dallas, Texas, t o service a l l o f the C i t y p o l i c e and f i r e department base stations and mobile equipment which includes two base stations and three mobile u n i t s from the f i r e department and two mobile u n i t s i n the p o l i c e department, at a cost o f $64.00 per month, which includes labor and materials. A l l Councilmen present voted i n favor o f t h i s motion. j 9. I A motion was made by Councilman F u l l e r , and seconded by Councilman Braswell, that the C i t y loan $3500 out of the General Fund t o the I n t e r e s t and Sinking Fund t o pay the installment due February 10, 1961, on the f i r e truck no. 52, which i s $5000 plus $495.34 i n t e r e s t . This i s being paid now t o save i n t e r e s t . A l l Councilmen present voted i n favor o f t h i s motion. 10. The C i t y Secretary i s to w r i t e t o the Municipal Service Company asking them t o r e p a i r t h e c u t i n Pipeline Road where the s t r e e t was cut t o lay the new sewer l i n e t o the Pittman Motel. The City of Euless received a request from a resident to purchase a quarterly permit to sell eggs from house to house in Euless. The City Council decided that as our Peddler's Ordinance No. 105 requires that permits be taken out on a yearly basis, this request could not be granted without amending this ordinance and this request could not be granted at this time. 7. The City received a request from Mr. John Lamar to put a house trailer on the Tolbert Grocery lot next to the city hall to be used as a real estate sales office. The City Council decided that this is not in violation of any city ordinance and the permission was granted. 8. A motion was made by Councilman Fuller, and seconded by Councilman Huffman, that the City enter into a contract with a Motorola Communications and Electronics, Inc., of Dallas, Texas, to service all of the City police and fire department base stations and mobile equipment which includes two base stations and three mobile units from the fire department and two mobile units in the police department, at a cost of $64.00 per month, which includes labor and materials. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion. j 9. I A motion was made by Councilman Fuller, and seconded by Councilman Braswell, that the City loan $3500 out of the General Fund to the Interest and Sinking Fund to pay the installment due February 10, 1961, on the fire truck no. 52, which is $5000 plus $495.34 interest. This is being paid now to save interest. All Councilmen present voted in favor of this motion. 10. The City Secretary is to write to the Municipal Service Company asking them to repair the cut in Pipeline Road where the street was cut to lay the new sewer line to the Pittman Motel.
