Dear Citizens,
How fortunate we are to have such lovely green
landscapes, lakes full of water and better ozone days.
Did you know that with all the rain we have had it
cleared up the air and we have the best ozone days in
years?
We welcome our two newest council persons Tim
Stinneford and Perry Bynum. Both gentlemen have
volunteered for Euless for many years and decided to
take the next step and volunteer full time. They are
eager to serve our community and to get to know more
of you.
Sadly, we are saying farewell to our long serving council person, Carl
Tyson. Carl has served over thirty years with volunteer service to Euless.
Many years were on the Planning and Zoning Commission followed by years
of service on the city council. We wish him well.
We will be saying farewell to our former City Manager very soon. Joe
Hennig has been with the city of Euless for fifteen years, eight of those as
City Manager. Many changes have occurred during Joe's tenure mainly with
our infrastructure and city buildings. Joe has been a leader in our
community volunteering for local boards and charities. Probably the
highlight of Joe's career was implementing the "peace pipe" with the DFW
Airport, thereby getting the car rental facility in the city of Euless. It has
truly been a joy working with Joe and we all will miss him and his cheerful
personality. We wish him well.
Our new City Manager is Gary McKamie. Gary has been working with the
city of Euless for thirty four years so he probably knows more about the city
than anyone. He was with the police department for many years rising to
Chief of Police before moving to Administration to be Assistant City
Manager then Deputy City Manager. We will have a very smooth transition
as Gary knows all the employees and has worked with the city council for
eight years. We wish him well.
As you can see there are many changes occurring in our city but we all
know that change can be good. We are working on our Facilities Plan and
you will see some changes at Texas Star Conference Centre, the Library and
the Senior Citizens Center within this next year.
In the meantime, the Public Works facility located on south Westpark
Way and Pipeline Road is now completed. The Public Works employees have
waited a long, long time for a home in Euless. Previously they were located
on Central Drive in Bedford.
The summer reading program at the Library is almost completed and I
hope many of you joined the program and enjoyed our Library this summer.
If you locate the bulletin board in the children's section you can see how
many children participated by their "sail boats." The Library continues to
have educational as well as entertaining programs for all our citizens. Do
check out the latest garden reading area at the library.
Will you please plan to participate with your Euless neighbors in
welcoming the Troops at the DFW Airport during the week of August 20-26?
This has been such a heartwarming program that has been supported
throughout North Texas. Our city has been a participant since the
beginning of the program and we are so proud of the many of you who have
been there to welcome our troops.
Please read through the many activities listed in Euless Today and
participate but better still VOLUNTEER your time and talents. We have the
best volunteers anywhere and we always welcome more. "TOGETHER WE
ARE MAKING CHANGES FOR THE FUTURE OF EULESS."
Welcome
Mary Lib Saleh

The Public Works Department recently moved into a new
facility at 1513 Westpark Way. The 13,500 square foot
building features a second story storage deck in the spacious
garage and a dedicated conference room. Additionally, a 7,000
square foot equipment pavilion was added to allow for
equipment to be kept out of the weather and under cover.
Water Conservation Ordinance
Even with the record rains this summer, Euless residents
should not take water for granted. It proves the point even
more that water levels can not be predicted from one year to
the next and we all need to make an effort to conserve water.
After the drought of 2006, City of Euless officials realized that
we need to protect this precious resource by enacting
measures that make sense for Euless residents.
Effective July 1, all Euless residents fall under a new water
conservation ordinance that prohibits watering outdoors
from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. year-round. The new rules will apply to
City water customers who use automatic and non -automatic
irrigation systems and garden hose -attached sprinklers to
water their lawns.
Watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. is an inefficient method
of maintaining yards. Water from sprinklers and irrigations
systems is lost by evaporation due to heat and wind. In
addition, daylight watering as well as domestic use, places
additional demands on the water treatment plant.
The ordinance does provide for watering home foundations
lawns and new landscape plantings by handheld hose, drit
irrigation or soaker hose. For more information pleas(
contact the Public Works department by calling 817-685
1694.

City Manager Joe Hennig to Retire
City Manager Joe Hennig announced his
retirement after 15 years with the city.
With his
announcement,
Hennig stated that
the city's employees,
directors and
department
managers are the
most dedicated and
hard working that he
has worked with
during his career.
"They are a
tremendous asset to the
City of Euless," said Hennig.
Hennig, 59, has served as the city's manager since
1999, after serving Euless as Director of
Development Services, Assistant City Manager and
Deputy City Manager. Hennig has worked for the
city since 1992 after retiring from 23 years with
TXU.
As City Manager, Hennig oversaw much
development in Euless along with significant bond
projects that improved the major roads and
infrastructure in Euless including the
revitalization of Euless Main Street and Pipeline
Road. Hennig was personally involved with the
construction of Texas Star Athletic Complex and
the DFW Car Rental Facility. Conservative
budgeting and innovative development under
Hennig's guidance has allowed Euless to remain in
a strong financial position.
When asked his feelings on retiring after so many
years, Hennig commented, "The citizens of Euless
make our great city what it is today. There are
many founding families that have been here since
the beginning and they are the ones still
volunteering at events, attending City Council
meetings and making things happen. They donate
their time and energy to Euless because they love
it.

Halloween Safety
Police Awards
During 1999-2002, decorations for special events accounted for an
estimated 1,100 reported home structure fires per year in the U.S.
The majority involved candles as the heat source. These fires
caused six deaths and $16 million in direct property damage per
year.
• Purchase only costumes, wigs and props labeled "flame -
resistant" or "flame-retardant." Avoid billowing or long trailing
features.
• Provide children with lightweight flashlights to carry for
lighting or as part of their costume.
• Dried flowers, cornstalks and crepe paper are highly
combustible. Keep these away from heat sources, including light
bulbs.
• Use flashlights or battery-operated candles when
illuminating Jack -O -Lanterns. If you use candles, use long
fireplace matches and keep the Jack -O -Lanterns away from
combustibles, doorways and walkways.
• Instruct children to stay away from open flames or other
heat sources. Be sure they know how to Stop, Drop and Roll.
Be careful and have a scare-ific Halloween this year.

Want a peaceful place to sit outside and read?
Try the new Reading Garden at the Euless
Public Library. This recently installed amenity
offers four separate reading areas with trees,
benches, flowers, and hedges and is located on
the east side of the building near the large
sculpture. We think that it is a wonderful
addition to the library. Try it; we think you'll
like it.
"El Cuento" Comes to the Library
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Euless
Public Library is proud to present bilingual
storyteller Martin Rivera, Ph.D for a special
performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 29.
Senor Rivera is known across the southwest for
his ability to "become the story," hence his
nickname "El Cuento" which is Spanish for "the
story." Whether you speak English or Spanish or
a little of both, you will be entranced by his
storytelling abilities. This program is especially
aimed for elementary aged children but everyone

You can also apply for some jobs directly on the kiosk.
Help the library celebrate Library Card Sign -Up
Month in September. We will have popcorn,
promotional items and other fun activities. A
library card is the smartest card anyone can
have. We have books -the newest bestsellers to
classics --magazines, movies, CDs, audio books,
all available for check out. We also have
computers with Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well
as Internet access and online databases with
information to help with everything from
homework to repairing your car. Most of the
databases are available for use at home. Also,
don't forget your most valuable research
assistant: your librarians. Libraries play an
important role in the education and development
of children. Studies show that children who are
read to in the home and who use the library
perform better in school and are more likely to
continue to use the library as a source of lifetime
learning. Remember, a library card is the most
important school supply of all.

The U.S. Soldiers are coming home for their

Euless Trails System
The City of Euless has experienced
significant progress in the last few years in
the area of trail development with a growing
network of paved and unpaved trails. Our
parks system has over five miles of linear
and loop trails meandering through natural
park settings. Our trails system is a
valuable asset to the community, as it
assists not only in providing a safe means
for non -vehicular travel, but also in
providing an opportunity for a variety of
unstructured, low -impact recreational
pursuits. The latest data from the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention indicate
that one in three people in this country are
seriously overweight. The Parks &
Community Services Department invites
you to get out and get active on one of our
many "pathways to a healthier new you".
