welcoff"!
Dear Citizens,
What a busy summer we've had with many
activities both in our cool buildings and outside in our
warm sunshine.
The many volunteers that helped with our Euless
Revitalization program in June during two very hot
days never complained and did such a fantastic job
helping others with a happy smile. We have so much
E!W1to be thankful for in our city and volunteers are
number one. Our volunteers consisted of citizens,
church members, fire and police academies, businesses, restaurants, city
staff members and even those from other cities. We totaled over 400
volunteers for two days. It's easy to see why Euless was selected as the Best
Small City in Texas to Raise Your Kids as well as one of the Best Places to
Live.
And while we are bragging, we want you to know Euless, Bedford and
Hurst won the Regional Cooperation Award from the North Central Texas
Council of Governments for assisting with the transportation needs of our
citizens with HEB Transit. This is the fourth time Euless has won this
most prestigious award.
The United States Conference of Mayors recognized the Euless
Revitalization program as a finalist at their national conference. You may
remember Euless won the City Livability Award two years ago with our
Compost-ology program.
The library has been a place of cool activities with plenty to do for all
ages. The summer concerts are free and lots of you are enjoying them.
Participation in the Summer Reading Club has increased to over 800 this
summer, not including adults. There are many continuing programs for
you to enjoy.
Our parks are such a joy to so many citizens, but then there are some
who find joy in vandalism. We suffer over $25,000 in damages to our parks
each summer. Now there is a way for citizens to help by calling Crime
Stoppers and reporting the crime if you know who committed the
vandalism. All calls are anonymous and many times there is a monetary
reward.
The Texas Star Golf and Conference Centre has been completely
remodeled with additional space in the Conference Centre and the Raven's
Grill. A lovely new enclosed porch has been added along with the two
outside porches. There are new additions to the menu and the Sunday
brunch continues to be a favorite meeting place for friends.
The new art work will be in place in late August and will continue with
the historical additions already at the Texas Star. This statue will be a
bronze work showing three Indians from different tribes signing the
peace treaty while Sam Houston is watching. The artist is Cindy Burleson
from Austin. Cindy has created all of the bronzes in the city.
Do read all the articles in the Euless Today as there are so many
activities listed for all ages and some need early registration. While the
city staff and Council are closely watching our budgets, we will still
provide the services our citizens have come to enjoy.
We continue to Build a Better Euless for our citizens today and
tomorrow. We are a FabEuless city because of our volunteers!

fflational Night Out
he 26th Annual National Night Out, America's night out
gainst crime, will be observed from 6 - 9:30 p.m. on
uesday, October 6 in Texas. Initiated by the National
ssociation of Town Watch in 1981, NNO is designed to
eighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate
upport for local anticrime programs, strengthen
eighborhood spirit and police -community partnerships
nd send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are
rganized and fighting back. Neighborhoods across
uless are sponsoring block parties, cookouts and visits
rom police and fire representatives. Over 35 million
eople in more than 11,000 communities across all fifty
states participated last year. So, turn your porch light on,
organize a block party and "fight back" against crime in
your community. You can request a visit by
representatives of the fire department at 817-685-1600 or
a police representative at 817-685-1536. Firefighters from
all three stations and the fire safety clowns will be out
visiting various organized block parties around town.
Fire Prevention Week
Fire Prevention Week, the longest running public health
and safety observance on record in America, will be
observed this year October 4-10. Proclamations have been
signed by U.S. Presidents every year since 1925
proclaiming the week in which October 9 falls as Fire
Prevention Week. On the night of October 8-9, 1871 the
reat city of Chicago was devastated by fire. The fire
destroyed more than 17,000 buildings across 200 acres of
he city, killing over 250 people. Strangely enough,
nother fire occurred the same night in the forests
urrounding Peshtigo, Wisconsin. While nearly lost to
istory by the shadow of the Great Chicago Fire, the
eshtigo fire burned over one million acres, destroyed 16
owns and killed more than 1,100 people. Those two fires
orever changed the way public officials thought about
're safety. In 1911, on the 40th anniversary of these fires,
he Fire Marshals Association of North America declared
at the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire should be
henceforth observed in a manner that would keep the j
ublic informed about the importance of fire prevention."
,n 1920 President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation
www.euless.org
proclaiming the first National Fire Prevention Day.
By 1922 it had become Fire Prevention Week, and
the rest, as they say, is history. Be fire safe!
Fire and Police Open Houses
The Euless Police and Fire Departments will both
host Open Houses from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday,
October 3. The Police Open House will be held at
1102 W. Euless Blvd. and the Fire Open House will
be held at Fire Station #3, 202 S. Main St. Both
events will have activities for children, tours of the
facilities and members of the Citizen's Emergency
Response Team, Citizen's Fire Academy, Citizen's
Police Academy and Citizens on Patrol. Plus, visit
with clowns from the S.A.F.E.T.Y. Troop, along with
Sprinkles, the police department's new safety
clown. In addition, representatives from each
department will be available to answer questions
and discuss their important role in the community.
These events are free and everyone is invited!

Mission Euless Revitalization
In an unprecedented effort of p
teamwork and volunteerism, nearly
500 volunteers pledged to help
_ ULESS
revitalize 15 homes over two days REVITALIZATION
through the Euless Revitalization Of11N1..Inff 0.l Np.! M ATMAf
program. On June 19 and 20, 6 Stones DW Redo L.C.
Ministries, DW Redo and the City of
Euless partnered with local churches St6nes
and businesses to make a dramatic
impact in our city. "
The newly formed 6 Stones Mission Network, a non-
profit ministry focusing on compassion ministries to
the community, provided funding and DW Redo, a local
home remodeling company, provided project planning
and volunteer coordination.
The quality of life in Euless has been greatly improved
through the Euless Revitalization program. In the
same way that decline can begin to infect a community,
so can pride of ownership inspire a community. The
program has had an incredible trickledown effect in
Euless neighborhoods.
We are fortunate to tap into some of the most dedicated
and hardworking volunteers in Texas and the
contribution they make to Euless is exceptional.
Volunteers of all ages, skill levels and knowledge were
able to lend their neighbors a much needed helping
hand with their homes. Numerous homes have already
been renovated and restored within our city with
remarkable results and this program will only continue
to grow. We're changing lives one house at a time. For
more information, please visit www.euless.orWER.

Reclaimed Water
In an extraordinary effort of team work, the cities of Euless
and Arlington along with DFW Airport are working with the
city of Fort Worth to explore opportunities to re -use waste
water (reclaimed) from the Village Creek Treatment Plant in
Fort Worth. Reclaimed or "recycled" water is produced from
the water we use and discard every day. After proper
treatment, it is ideal for many non -drinking purposes such as
landscape watering. Reclaimed water is rapidly becoming a
valuable resource and is a practical method of relieving the
demand on potable water supplies.
We anticipate that once the infrastructure is in place,
reclaimed water will be used for irrigation at Texas Star, the
Parks at Texas Star and Softball World. It may also be available
for heavy industrial uses. Since it is treated wastewater, it is
not subject to drought restrictions and may provide additional
nutrients to the turf, which makes good environmental sense.
By using reclaimed water, we're working together to provide
high-quality water for our environment and for the future. It
provides an efficient use of the region's water resources while
conserving valuable water supplies for the region. Every
gallon of reclaimed water used for outdoor watering
represents a gallon of potable water saved for drinking.

has recently partnered with the Euless Police
Department to expand our Community Crime Stoppers
program to include our city's parks. Each year it is
estimated that vandalism to our parks system costs us
about $25,000 in repairs and manpower to repair parks
equipment and/or parks grounds that have been
vandalized. If you should happen to witness someone
vandalizing park property, contact Crime Stoppers at
817 -469 -TIPS (8477). Remember, tipsters may remain
anonymous and
may be eligible for
a reward for infor-
mation leading to
an arrest. Help us
keep our parks
and facilities safe
for the children
and families of
Euless.
A summer camp class, participating in
the PACS Partners program, assisted
in making Crime Stoppers signs...
The Euless Historical Preservation Committee is
interested in artifacts for the City's Fuller House
Museum. The Committee is especially interested in
acquiring a candle mold and an old ice box for the
Museum. If you have artifacts from between the 1850's
and 1930's you would like to donate or loan (certain
artifacts may be purchased depending on Committee
need) please contact the City.
