Retire in Euless Euless is already considered a great place to live and raise a family, and now, it's official, Euless is also a great place to retire. In November, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) designated Euless as a Go Texan Certified Retirement Community. The Retirement Community Program is an initiative from C TDA encouraging retirees to a make their homes in Texas communities that have met the criteria for certification. To qualify Euless completed a rigorous application process. Then, the application was reviewed and scored by an independent committee of volunteers experienced in various aspects of community and economic development. The GO TEXAN stamp of approval ensures that our city has demonstrated it can meet the living, y emp to ment volunteer, education, entertainment, health and safety needs of our citizens and visitors - all the things that make Euless a great place. Euless loves our Seniors and is proud to have earned the Certified Retirement Community seal! 2 AARP Tax Preparation The Library will once again welcome AARP volunteers to help individuals and couples prepare their income tax returns. When Temperatures Drop, CO Poisoning Potential Rises Your Fire Department is reminding everyone that when temperatures drop, tragically, people die simply by turning up the heat to stay warm. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that kills people each year from exposure to its deadly properties. Symptoms of CO poisoning are: headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, sleepiness and confusion. For your safety, install a CO alarm with battery backups outside each sleeping area of your home if your home has gas-fired appliances, wood -burning fireplaces or an attached garage. If your CO alarm sounds, or you believe you are experiencing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, get out of the house and call 9-1-1 immediately! I _ , Avid Golfer Gives Top Ranking Texas Star returns to the top ranked v a public golf course in the Luxury Courses category, an honor also held in 2008. According to Avid Golfer, "Many golfers regard the Keith Foster design as one of the best in the area, and the course conditions -especially the bentgrass greens -survived the brutal summer. The club also maintained a high standard off the course with its service and top- notch dining." Raven's Grille, located in the Texas Star Clubhouse, was listed as the best place to have lunch before and after your round. Both the course and Raven's Grille ranked in the top five for the Best Service. Avid Golfer boasted, "Texas Star's staff always seems to be hustling, whether it's the cart guys taking your clubs down to the carts or the wait staff getting you a to -go box for your Double -Barrel Chicken Fried Steak." We're honored by these accolades. Don't just take our word for it. See for yourself what a great course awaits in your own backyard. Cease the Grease! The fats, oil and grease (FOG) found in food such as meat, cooking oil, shortening, sauces and dairy products are major concerns for Euless sewers. When not disposed of properly, FOG builds up in the sewer system, constricting a flow, which can cause back- ups into homes and overflow discharges on streets. Please take precautions to keep your pipes grease free. How to Clean Dishes to Protect Your Pipes: • Before washing, scrape or wipe cooled grease and sauces from all utensils, cookware and plates into the trash or compost. 4 • Prewash dishware in cold water. * Avoid using the garbage disposal and hot water. The garbage disposal does not destroy grease, it only makes is smaller. If you have accumulated grease in your pipes, putting food scraps down the drain can clog your pipes faster. • Don't pour oil or grease down the drain. If grease does go down the drain, follow it with cold water. p,,p , WME Jsmp l —ida pWmbW, .nd efi . r ps 6 SSE Easf Christmas Treecycling Event January 8, 10 a.m. -1 p.m. Midway Park, 300 W.
