Dear Citizens,
Have you
noticed the
beautiful plants
along our
roadways and parks? Spring
flowers bring such joy
especially after our cold
winter. Our parks department
grows many plants in our
own greenhouse. Now is the
time to start our outdoor
exercises again and enjoy all
the beauty of nature.
Check out the summer
recreational activities for all
ages in our library, the parks,
the recreation center and the
ball fields. Be involved either
as a participant or volunteer.
And a special "THANK YOU"
to all our volunteers who
helped clean with the Trash
Off and those who used their
expertise to revitalize homes
during the CPR blitz. You are
the reason we have been
designated as a great city to
raise a family and also a great
place for retirement.

EULESS
I'
Meet the New Fire Chief
Euless City
Manager Gary
McKamie has
announced that
Wes Rhodes has
accepted the
position of Fire
Chief for the
City of Euless.
Rhodes has served in Haltom City for the
past 25 years. During his career as a
Firefighter/EMT, he worked his way through
the ranks as Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain,
Deputy Fire Chief and finally as Fire Chief.
In addition, Rhodes has been a Fire
Academy Instructor at Tarrant County
College for 16 years. He recently led a group
of fire professionals to Taiwan to train
members of the Taiwan government in swift
water rescue.
Active in the Fire community, Rhodes
serves as President of the Northeast Fire
Department Association, Chair of the
Tarrant County College Fire Academy and
Degree Program Advisory Board Member.
He also participates in the State and
International Firefighter Associations.
Rhodes and his wife Mary have been
married 21 years. They have two children; a
daughter Peyton, 20 and son Aaron, 17.
"Wes has led that department through
some difficult periods with the flooding,
tornado, and other natural disasters they
have had the misfortune of experiencing,"
McKamie said. "Through it all, he raised that
department to a higher level. "
Police and Code Compliance Join Forces
* l
Code Compliance has moved to the
Police Department in order to help reduce
crime and strengthen code compliance
initiatives. With this transition Code
Compliance, previously named Code
Enforcement, will take on a totally new
look and appearance with new, distinctive
uniforms.
The physical move to the Police
Department will allow Code Inspectors to
work closely with Police Officers and the
Municipal Court on public safety issues to
create a safer community. The move will
not only give Code an opportunity to have
closer interaction with the officers on the
street, it will allow police
officers and code inspectors to
partner together to provide proactive
solutions to situations.
"Our goal is to gain voluntary compliance
through a concerted effort to use a
common sense approach to daily problems
that affect our citizens," said Code Captain
Gary Landers.
We encourage residents to report code
issues in the community by calling
817-685-1509. Please allow some time for
Code to inspect the situation and they will
report back to you.

Receive Severe Weather Updates
With Texas spring weather upon us, we need to
be prepared for severe weather. The Wireless
Emergency Network Service (WENS) will notify
residents of severe weather. During actual disasters it
was discovered that text messages would still
transmit when voice messages would not. This is a
valuable communication tool.
In the event of an emergency, a text message will
be sent to the mobile number and/or email with the
nature of the emergency. The system will be used for
all hazards such as weather, chemical spills or lost
children. In addition, subscribers will also receive
automatic advisories and watches from the National
Weather Service.
There is no cost to the subscriber other than fees
that cell phone providers may charge to receive text
messages. Sign up at www.eulesstx.gov/wens.
