HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-10 Euless Today1011 October rr Dear Citizens, Now that the weather has cooled down it's time to replenish those shrubs and trees that could not survive the long, hot summer. If you have questions about what and how to plant material for our area the Parks Department is just a phone call away. October is a busy month with activities in the Library, Parks, Neighborhoods, Schools and Police and Fire Open Houses. The Police and Fire Open House is a wonderful opportunity for citizens to meet our Safety Experts as well as the many Alumni Volunteers. There will be activities for all ages. The Library Book Sale benefits many activities in our Library and all items are very inexpensive. It's time to apply for Boards and Commissions. There are many ways to Volunteer and with all the activities in Euless we need Volunteers. Enjoy the cool weather! THE OFFICIAL ' PUBLICATION OF EUUSS • Stage One Watering Restrictions Implemented In an effort to conserve water supplies, Euless is implementing Stage One Watering Restrictions on August 29. Stage One limits outdoor watering to two -days a week. Current time -of -day restrictions, prohibiting outdoor watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., will remain in effect. This restriction applies to watering with sprinklers or irrigation systems. Hand watering, soaker hoses and drip/bubbler systems, used to protect home foundations or tend to trees and shrubs, are allowed anytime. Start weaning your lawn now from water dependence by watering deeply and infrequently. Light daily sprinkling does little to alleviate stress of plants growing in hot, dry soil. Give plants a weekly soaking at a depth of 4-5 inches. Water deeply once a week and your soil retains moisture for several days. Think of your soil as a sponge. If you water too long, the soil reaches a saturation point and water flows into the gutter. Many soils will not take an inch of water before runoff occurs, so break up the watering into segments to give the earth time to soak up the water. For example, water for 15 minutes and then let it soak for 45 minutes. This allows moisture to penetrate deep into the soil where roots can readily absorb it. KNOW YOUR WATERING SCHEDULE: Monday - no watering allowed Tuesday/Friday - Commercial sites (apartments, businesses, parks) Wednesday/Saturday - Residential addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 Thursday/Sunday - Residential addresses ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 Euless Today is published by the City of Euless 201 N. The Texas Star Sports Complex is comprised of over 300 acres of land. Reclaimed or "recycled" water is produced from the water we use and discard every day. After proper treatment, it is ideal for many non - drinking purposes such as landscape watering. Reclaimed water is quickly becoming a valuable resource and is a practical method of relieving the demand on potable water supplies. Every gallon of reclaimed water used for outdoor watering represents a gallon of potable water saved for drinking. Since it is treated wastewater, it is not subject to drought restrictions and may provide additional nutrients to the turf, which makes good environmental sense. By using reclaimed water, we're working together to protect our environment now and in the future. It provides an efficient use of the region's water resources while conserving valuable water supplies. CPR Stat!
