1 December 1PUBLICArioN of EULtESS
Dear Citizens,
December is a
magical time of
year. There are so
many activities
going on in our city
as well as with
family and friends. Our holiday
season will begin on Saturday,
Dec. 3 with the Christmas
Parade of Lights. Last year we
had 105 floats in the parade and
we hope to break that record this
year. If your club, organization
or neighborhood association
would like to participate, come
and join in a celebration of the
holidays. The following Saturday
is a festive family celebration at
our Heritage Park.
It's time again to select the
Volunteers of the Year for 2011.
We want to thank all of our
volunteers for their dedication
and hard work in Euless. I
encourage everyone to send in a
nomination for someone
deserving. Our volunteers are
one of the finest assets in our
city and we appreciate their time
they give to Euless!
You make Euless a great city and
TOGETHER WE ARE BUILDING
A BETTER TOMORROW.

Christmas Safety
Criminals love the holidays because this busy time
of year is an excellent opportunity to commit crime.
Please make your holidays safe by observing the
following safety tips. If you are out for the evening:
• Turn on lights, radio or TV so it appears
someone is home.
• Don't display valuable items so they're
visible from outside.
• Park in well -lit areas and lock windows and
doors.
• If you must carry cash, don't flash it around
and keep it in a safe place on you.
• When using an ATM, be aware of other
people around the machine.
• Carry wallets in front pockets and keep
purses close to your body.
• Keep children close while shopping or
attending activities.
• When returning to your car or home, have
keys in your hands ready to open the door.
• Before entering your vehicle, check seats for
anyone that may be hiding. Lock doors after
entering.
Christmas Tree Safety
Here are some tips for decorating your Christmas
tree so you have a safe, memorable Christmas.
• If you purchase an artificial tree, select one
that is flame retardant.
• If you purchase a live tree, choose one that
is not already losing needles. This may
indicate that it is dried out.
• When you get your live tree home, cut one
inch off the base and stand the tree in a
bucket of water for twenty-four hours in the
garage or other unheated portion of your
home. Cut off another inch before placing
the tree in a sturdy tree stand that will hold
one gallon of water.
• Keep your tree stand full of water so your
tree will remain fresh throughout the season.
• Place your tree away from exits, heat dis-
charge vents and heat sources such as stoves,
space heaters and fireplaces. These dry
out trees and are potential sources of ignition.
• Use lights listed by Underwriters Laboratories
and do not string more together than
the manufacturer recommends. NEVER USE
CANDLES!
• Turn off all electric decorations when you go
to bed or when leaving your home.
• Keep an eye on those small, inquisitive kids
when they are near the tree.
If you have any questions please call the Fire
Marshal's Office at 817-685-1600. Have a safe and
wonderful holiday season!
