HomeMy WebLinkAboutEuless Today 03/20121011 March Dear Citizens, Last year, the State of Texas . 3 designated March as Women Vet- erans Month in tribute to the immeasurable contributions that women in the military have made to this nation. Long before they gained regular admission to the military, thousands of women assisted the uniformed branches as nurses, water bearers, laundresses, and cooks, sometimes served as spies and saboteurs, and on occasion even took up arms. The number of women veterans now totals 1.8 million and Texas is home to more than 150,000 women veterans, the second highest number of any state in the nation. The women who have served in the United States armed forces have demonstrated tenacity, courage, and professionalism, and they are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest gratitude and unfailing support. CERT training promotes a partnering effort between emergency services and the people that they serve. The goal is for emergency personnel to train members of neighborhoods, community organizations or workplaces in basic response skills. CERT members are then integrated into the emergency response capability for their area. If you would like to learn more about CERT or would like to take the course, please contact Officer James Gordon at 817-685-1686 or visit www.eulesstx.gov/police/em.
