HomeMy WebLinkAboutEuless Today 03/20121011 March
Dear Citizens,
Last year, the
State of Texas
. 3 designated March
as Women Vet-
erans Month in
tribute to the
immeasurable
contributions that women in
the military have made to this
nation. Long before they
gained regular admission to
the military, thousands of
women assisted the uniformed
branches as nurses, water
bearers, laundresses, and
cooks, sometimes served as
spies and saboteurs, and on
occasion even took up arms.
The number of women
veterans now totals 1.8 million
and Texas is home to more
than 150,000 women veterans,
the second highest number of
any state in the nation. The
women who have served in the
United States armed forces
have demonstrated tenacity,
courage, and professionalism,
and they are deserving of their
fellow citizens' deepest
gratitude and unfailing
support. TOGETHER WE ARE
BUILDING A BETTER
TOMORROW.

CPR Blitz Volunteers Needed
March 23-24
Last fall, hundreds
of volunteers
helped repair
homes in one
weekend, and now we are inviting
you to help us do it again! Please join
our growing CPR family of
volunteers and sponsors as we
attempt to help more struggling
families make needed repairs to their
homes. Arrive at 6 Stones Campus,
209 N. Industrial in Bedford, at 8
a.m. Please register online and fill
out a volunteer waiver ahead of
time to bring with you to
registration. You will be assigned a
home after you check in. Lunch
will be provided at each of the
homes. Please bring gloves, ladders,
rakes, shovels and push brooms if
you have them. Thank you again
for your commitment to CPR!
We're changing lives, one house at
a time. To sign up as a volunteer

New CERT Class
Begins April 4
The Community Emergency
Response Team (CERT) is an
initiative of the Police and
Fire Departments to ensure that our
community is informed and prepared in the
instance of a disaster. CERT training promotes
a partnering effort between emergency services
and the people that they serve. The goal is for
emergency personnel to train members of
neighborhoods, community organizations or
workplaces in basic response skills. CERT
members are then integrated into the
emergency response capability for their area. If
you would like to learn more about CERT or
would like to take the course, please contact
Officer James Gordon at 817-685-1686 or visit
www.eulesstx.gov/police/em.
Check your Smoke Detectors
Most people will trade an hour's sleep on
March 11 to "spring forward" for more sunlight
in the evenings. The Euless Fire Department
reminds you to change the batteries in your
smoke detectors, carbon monoxide (CO)
detectors and hazard warning radios when you
change your clocks for Daylight Saving Time.
Amateur Radio Euless
Are you looking for a new hobby? Curious about
amateur radio or already licensed to operate? Come
and join us at Amateur Radio Euless (ARE). Amateur
radio, also known as "ham radio" operators assist
Emergency Management by providing emergency
communications in disaster situations. ARE has
participated in local events such as Arbor Daze where
members have assisted in locating lost children. ARE
meets at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the
month at the Euless Police Department. Please visit
www.w5eul.com for more information or call 817-
685-3144.
