Dear Citizens,
Congratulations
zm
go out to all of
our Volunteer
of the Year
winners. We are
lucky to have
such a devoted
group of citizens that love
Euless. Volunteers are truly
the heartbeat of our city.
WE, THE COUNCIL AND
STAFF, THANK YOU!
Arbor Daze Festival is back
this year! Euless has been a
Tree City USA through the
Arbor Day Foundation for
the 26th year and it is an
honor to continue the
tradition this year. Come get
your free tree. We can't wait
to see you there.
Our Community Powered
Revitalization (CPR) has
grown so that other
communities have joined
with Euless to make an even
better difference in peoples'
lives. We have more houses
than ever that need our help
so come and join the
volunteers and share your
talents and enjoy meeting
others as well.

Volunteers of the Year Named for 2011
Euless relies upon our volunteers
to make our special events great!
Our volunteers work long hours,
simply to give back to Euless. In
turn, the City picks volunteers each
year to celebrate the devotion of
these outstanding people.
Alex Horton was named
Volunteer of the Year for his overall
dedication to Euless. Horton has
served on the Parks Board,
Economic Advisory Board, Library
Board, and the Euless Library
Foundation. He also lead the effort
to allow wine sales in local grocery
stores and most recently has given
countless hours to 6 Stones Mission
Network for any need that has
arisen. Parks and Community
Services Director Ray McDonald
said, "It takes a special person to
volunteer, but it takes an extra
special volunteer to make a
difference. His passion for Euless is
an inspiration to us all."
The Volunteer Business of the
Year was presented to Euless
SuperTarget for their efforts to help
those less fortunate in Euless.
SuperTarget always seems to have a
presence at special events in Euless.
They have continually sponsored
the Community Powered
Revitalization blitz, Night of
Wonder student parties,
Operation Back to School and
the HEBISD Boys & Girls Expo
that encourages children to head
down the right path in life.
The Youth of the Year was
given to the HEBISD Adult
Transition Program. Students in
this program learn the skills
necessary for making the
transition to adulthood beyond
public school. The Euless Library
has participated with the HEB
ISD Adult Transition program for
several years. This year, eight high
school students and two teachers
come to the library once a week.
The students survey the children's
book collection for damage and
clean the covers. This year they
have cleaned 3,000 books and
identified 531 books for repairs
or replacements. Library
Administrator Kate Lyon said,
"This is a very important task that
the students take seriously and
are helping to keep our children's
book collection attractive and
inviting."

The Lifetime Achievement Award is
given to a person that has continually
given of their time and efforts to the
City of Euless throughout the years.
This year, this prestigious award is
presented to Harold Samuels. He
dedicated 25 years as a public servant
as a member of the Euless City Council
from 1968-1975 and then as Euless
Mayor from 1975-1993. Samuels then
served as District Director for
Congressman Joe Barton from 1993-
2000. A strong proponent of health
care governance, Samuels served on
the board of Fort Worth's JPS Health
Network and Texas Healthcare Trustees
for several years. In addition, he
received the Northeast Leadership
Forum Distinguished Leadership
Award in 2006.
Our congratulations go out to all of
this year's winners. The dedication of
a volunteer's time and energy cannot
be compared and we appreciate their
love and admiration for Euless. Thank
you for the time and energy that you
spend to help make Euless great!

Saving Water Saves You Money
In order to ensure we have enough water for future
generations and to promote water conservation, the
Euless City Council approved a tiered water rate that
encourages efficient water use. The more water you
conserve, the lower your rate.
Outside activities such as watering lawns, filling
pools and washing cars can account for up to 60
percent of water use. Those who choose to increase
their water use will pay for additional water needed to
keep up with the demand.
Water is one of our most important natural
resources and we must protect it. The tiered rate
structure is designed to protect our water resources
now and in the future.
The City of Euless Utility Billing Office is committed
to the privacy of its customers. As such, the office has
enacted a privacy policy that is designed for your
protection. To view the complete privacy policy, please
visit www.EulessTX.gov/water or call 817-685-1471.

Arbor Daze Festival
Returns in 2012!
April 28 - 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
April 29 - 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Euless City Hall Complex, 201 N. Ector Dr.
The roots of the City of Euless celebration of
Arbor Day can be traced to a Home and Garden
Expo held in 1988 in the old gymnasium of what
is now City Hall. Attended by some 1,500
residents, the event was declared a success and
plans made to hold an annual event emphasizing
trees and beautification. The following year, the
"How to Grow Lawn and Garden Show" was held
and the event kept growing year after year.
This year's festival will be the 22nd time the
City of Euless will celebrate Arbor Day. Each
attendee of the festival will receive a free tree. The
urban tree canopy has been dwindling for
decades and the Arbor Daze Festival has given
over 150,000 trees away through the years. Most
of these trees have been planted in the immediate
area to replenish the local tree population.
Arbor Daze 2012 will feature great local
entertainment, Arts and Crafts Booths, Business
Expo, Arbor Dazzling Kidz Zone, Forestry Village
and great food! Find out more details by visiting
www.arbodaze.org.
