HomeMy WebLinkAboutEuless Today 07/20121011 * July PUB%CA %ON OF EULESS Dear Citizens, Our sizzling summer days are with us again, and with all of the activities going on in Euless, one might say we are "sizzling" too. There are so many things going on this summer to keep you and your little ones busy. Please take advantage of all of the reading events and concerts at the Library. Keep their minds active while staying cool. Truly a summer treat is to enjoy an outdoor movie at the amphitheater in the Villages of Bear Creek Park or the "How we Lived Tour" at historic Heritage Park. All the details are inside the newsletter. The Parks Department has a number of summer camps and classes to keep the entire family in shape and having fun. You can also keep cool in one of our three Euless swimming pools or at Splash Island. TOGETHER WE ARE BUILDING A BETTER TOMORROW FOR OUR CITIZENS. Wireless Emergency Notification System (WENS) Severe weather can occur at any time. The City of Euless created the Wireless Emergency Network Service when it was discovered that text messages will transmit when voice messages would not. In the event of an emergency, a text message will be sent to the mobile number and/or email outlining the nature of the emergency. With the ability to send out 25,000 text messages per minute, this became a valuable communication tool. The system will be used for emergencies such as weather, chemical spills or lost children. There is no cost to the subscriber other than fees that cell phone providers may charge to receive text messages. To sign up, use the online form at www.euless.org/wens or contact the police department at 817-685-1500. Euless Today is published by the City of Euless. 201 N. Citizens on Patrol is a non-intervention association. This requires observing and reporting any offense to the police department, rather than handling the situation themselves. Volunteers are trained through hours of seminars, demonstrations, films, and hands-on participation before they are able to apply to participate in Citizens on Patrol. You too can be an asset to the Police Department without being a Citizen on Patrol and report any suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1.
