Help us clean up Euless the first weekend in April with Texas Trash Off and then safely dispose of your hazardous materials on April 20. The CPR Blitz April 12-13 is always a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun and a great way to make some new friends. The election for Council Members will take place on May 11, 2013. Early voting will begin in April 29 at the Library and will be available through May 7. Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Year winners! The contributions you make to our FabEuless community are incredible. Thank you for all that you do to keep BUILDING A BETTER TOMORROW. WOP A-:) Puna ioH ©f EUL°ESS Volunteers of the Year Named for 2012 We're going to let you in on the secret of our great events. Shhhh. Don't tell anyone. It's our volunteers! Euless volunteers are the cream of the crop. They consistently give their time and energy to make our community FabEuless. In turn, the City of Euless honors volunteers each year to celebrate the dedication and service of these outstanding people. The Euless Historic Preservation Museum Set -Up Committee was named Volunteer of the Year for their work in creating a museum to honor the history of Euless. The museum opened in September and features priceless artifacts from as far back as the 1880s. It even has a replica of a wood porch inside the museum that was hand crafted by members of the committee in their spare time... Parks and Community Services Director Ray McDonald said, "I once read, 'Never doubt that a small, committed group of individuals can make such an impact in the lives of those they serve. Indeed, they're the only ones who ever have. I think this is an exact testament to the tireless commitment that the Museum Set - Up Committee has made to this community in preserving our history. What they have done, and continue to do, will touch lives in this community for generations." (continued on the next page) Euless Today is published by the City of Euless. 201 N. Although they are not located in Euless, they provide a tremendous amount of support for local charities. They most recently hosted a golf tournament in October that benefitted five local charities, two of which directly support Euless residents. They were able to donate funds to the Trinity High School Angel Fund and G Stones Mission Network for both groups to continue their care for Euless residents. k:&iiiiiii!11jjjjjjjj1ii The Youth of the Year was given to Nicole Hyde. Nicole is a member of the Girls Awareness Program also known as the GAP Club from Trinity High School. This incredible group is devoted to the animal shelter and work to facilitate adoptions and foster pets. They are directly responsible for a significant decrease in the euthanasia rate of pets at the Euless Animal Shelter. Nicole fosters for the shelter and can always be counted on to help at the shelter whenever she is needed. She visits the shelter weekly and during the summer she regularly walks the dogs, clean cages, bathes dogs and provides needed TLC for pets while they are there. The Lifetime Contribution Award is given to a person or persons in Euless that have given of their time and efforts to the City of Euless throughout their life. This year, the Lifetime Contribution Award has been presented to J.R. Goad and John and Helen Voss. J. R. Goad has been involved in the Euless community for years. Goad will tell you he's "82% of 100" and loves to volunteer. He has served on the Economic Development Advisory Board, Euless Core Council, and the Child Abduction Response Team. Every year he volunteers for the Euless HazMat Day, Parade of Lights, Arbor Daze, Police Open House and Community Powered Revitalization. He also dedicates his time to the HEB ISD and has been a volunteer reader at Wilshire Elementary School for more than 20 years. He is a true asset for our community. Whether it be the Euless Citizen's Police Academy Alumni, Fire Academy Alumni, Euless Library Foundation, Euless Historical Preservation Committee or the First United Methodist Church in Euless, you will see evidence of the Voss family contributions of time, money and talent. Voss Parts has been a part of the Euless business community for many years. Most recently, Helen served as chair of the museum set-up committee and worked hard to orchestrate volunteers and organize keepsakes before the museum opening. John was usually called when help was needed at his church. If he was unable to take care of it personally, he hired someone to do it. He did not want recognition or accolades; it was simply the right thing to do. John recently passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. The Voss family has made an impact on the landscape of Euless that won't soon be forgotten. Our congratulations go out to all of this year's winners. The dedication of a volunteer's time and energy cannot be compared and we appreciate their love and admiration for Euless. Thank you for the time and energy that you spend to help make Euless great!
