Are you looking for a new
hobby? Curious about
amateur radio or already
licensed to operate?
Come and join us at
Amateur Radio Euless
(ARE). Amateur radio,
also known as "ham radio" operators
communicate with people across town or
around the world and use their hobby to assist
Emergency Management situations such as
severe storm reporting. Operators around the
country have provided emergency
communications in disaster situations.
Amateur Radio Euless has participated in
numerous local events such as Arbor Daze
where members have assisted in locating lost
children or filling other communication needs.
Amateur Radio Euless meets at 7 p.m. on the
second Wednesday of the month at the Euless
Police Department. Please visit

Check your Smoke
Detectors
Most people will trade an hour's sleep on
March 9 to "spring forward" for more sunlight
in the evenings. The Euless Fire Department
reminds you to change the batteries in your
smoke detectors, carbon monoxide (CO)
detectors and hazard warning radios when you
change your clocks for Daylight Saving Time.
This simple step greatly increases a family's
chances of escaping safely in the event of a
house fire or a gas leak. A working smoke
detector doubles the chance of surviving a fire.
It's critical to test your smoke detectors
regularly and to replace the batteries in battery-
operated units at least once every six months,
as well as in battery-operated carbon monoxide
detectors. Safety experts also recommend
replacing any smoke detector that is more than
10 years old. For more information, call the
Euless Fire Department at 817-685-1600.
