HomeMy WebLinkAboutEuless Today 08/20141414 August
Dear Citizens,
August is a month
for music lovers
with several free
concerts. The
Library will host
two performances.
First, kiddie band The Que Pastas on
August 2nd at 2 p.m. and then "Big
Band" Les Elgart Orchestra will
perform August 4th at 7 p.m. Later
in the month, Texas Star will host a
country concert under the pavilion in
front of the golf course. The beautiful
view will be secondary to the great
Texas performers that are lined up
that evening. The Washers will open
the show with Bri Bagwell and the
Banned headlining. You can listen to
their music online before coming to
the show. The music is great and I
can't think of a better way to spend a
summer evening under the stars.
While the greens are being replaced
at Texas Star Golf Course, take
advantage of the time to work on
your golf game. There are clinics for
all ages and all skill levels. I
frequently attend the ladies clinics
and have made progress thanks to
the patience of our pros. If you want
more individualized attention, the
golf pros also offer one-on-one
lessons. Raven's Grille is open
throughout the course renovation
and ready to serve you a cold drink
and snack after your lesson.

Take Control and Stop
West Nile Virus
Dump Standing Water I Wear Repellent I Dress
for Dusk and Dawn
Experts believe West Nile Virus is the seasonal epidemic
of the summer, just as influenza is to winter. West Nile
can be transmitted whenever mosquitoes are biting,
which is why it is best to protect yourself all year.
Everyone is at risk of being affected by West Nile Virus.
There is no vaccine.
Mosquitoes must have standing water in which to begin
their life cycle. Almost any container or area of standing
water presents a potential "mosquito nursery" where
eggs can be laid. The easiest way to eliminate
mosquitoes is to remove any standing water from your
yard and community. It's as simple as that!
Get rid of mosquito breeding sites by emptying standing
water from flowerpots, buckets and other things that
hold water. Change the water in pet dishes, and replace
the water in birdbaths weekly. Drill holes in tire swings
so water drains out. Keep children's wading pools empty
and on their sides when they aren't being used.
Take responsibility for your health. Check out West Nile
Virus information at www.tarrantcounty.com for
prevention tips and facts about West Nile Virus.
Mosquito Spraying
The City of Euless helps protect residents with
periodic spraying and by monitoring
mosquitoes carrying the virus with mosquito
surveillance traps. The spraying covers the
entire city and does not target specific areas.
The spray is actually a periodic puff of mist
containing mosquito adulticide. The mist is
hardly visible to the naked eye and has no
detectable odor. Mosquito spraying will be
performed in the late evening while most of
the city population is indoors. Weather
conditions dictate available times to spray since
spraying will not be performed during rainfall
or when wind speeds are over 10 mph.
The City of Euless proactively tries to reduce
the number of mosquitos by placing larvacide
pellets along with gambusia minnows in
ponds, creeks, lakes, and drainage easements.
This tough fish helps to fight mosquito
infestation due to their ability to consume over
100 mosquito larvae a day, tolerate hot
weather, still water, and even common
pollutants.
Mosquito spraying and larvacide pellets will
not eliminate mosquitoes completely. We ask
that residents help us take action against
mosquito infestation. The most effective way
to reduce mosquitoes in your neighborhood is
to remove their breeding source — standing
water. Thousands of mosquitoes can hatch
from a puddle of water that is stagnant for at
least four days.
If you have any questions or concerns
regarding West Nile Virus, please call Public
Works, at 817-685-1580.
