The Police and Fire Open Houses provide an opportunity to meet and learn from our safety experts. The Library book sale benefits library programs and has lots of items at terrific sales. Recreation programs are in full swing so check them out. Our Community Powered Revitalization on October 19 & 20 needs lots of volunteers. Access Euless, an interactive communication, is a convenient way for residents to contact staff with any concerns. Do make sure you utilize this new resident tool. With all the wonderful activities scheduled above, we need a great many volunteers. Thank you in advance for sharing your time and talents with others. Do you want to report improper water use? Do you have a question about parking or trash pickup? Submit any issue, question, or view answers to frequently asked questions easily using the web -based tracking system, Access Euless. Access Euless improves com- munication between residents and the City of Euless by automatically routing requests to the appropriate employee. This ensures all citizens receive accurate and timely responses. You will also be given status updates on your request. Access Euless is available around the clock for submissions. The City of Euless staff can't be everywhere all the time and so, with Access Euless residents are able to assist in making Euless a better place to live and work by reporting issues as they are seen. If you don't have a QR scanner, search for "GoRequest" in iTunes or the Google play store. Once downloaded, simply open the app, select an issue, take a picture, and tap submit. Each year on National Night out, Euless residents "fight back" against crime by organizing a variety of special events within their neighborhoods. Get your neighborhood involved in National Night Out to promote police/community partnerships, and learn about violence and drug prevention while building neighborhood unity. Send a message to criminals letting them know your neighborhood is organized, involved, and fighting back. The Euless Police & Fire Departments invite all neighborhoods in Euless to meet in their neighborhood parks and join with the police and the nation to "take a bite out of crime." You can request a visit by representatives of the fire department at 817- 685-1600 or the police department at 817-685-1536. Crud Cruiser Saturday, October 13, 9 - H a.m. Euless Municipal Complex, 201 N. Ector Dr. Bring your crud to the Crud Cruiser. The mobile collection unit that can accept hazardous material from approximately 125 households. Space is limited. If the unit reaches its capacity before you arrive, you may deliver your materials to the Environmental Collection Center in east Fort Worth. Be prepared to show proof of Euless residency with a water bill or driver's license. You may also bring any small electrical appliances you would like to recycle such as computers, monitors, radios, VCRs, stereos, clocks, hair dryers, televisions and office equipment. For a complete list of acceptable items, visit www.eulesstx.gov/hazmat. Fight the Bite Protect yourself against West Nile Virus with the "Four D's" 1. DUSK/DAWN -if possible stay indoors, this is when infected mosquitos are most active. 2. DRESS -wear long sleeves and long pants when outside. For extra protection, spray thin clothing with repellent. 3. DEET -always wear repellent when outdoors. Choose products that contain up to 20% DEET. 4. DRAIN -remove standing water in your yard, these are mosquito breeding sites. If you have standing water that is unable to drain, treat them with 'mosquito dunks' that kill the larvae for up to 30 days. A single dunk can cover 100 square feet of water. These are available in packs of 6 from many stores with home & garden sections. If you have symptoms that include stiff neck, high fevers, or severe headache, contact your health-care provider immediately. Partnering for Prevention Open House Saturday, October G, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Police & Courts, 1102 W. Euless Blvd. Fire Station #3, 202 S. Main St. The Euless Police and Fire Departments will once again be "partnering for prevention" during Public Safety Month in October. You will learn important crime and fire prevention strategies while seeing the tools used every day in Euless to protect you. Fire and Police vehicles and equipment will also be on display at each site. Both events will have activities for children, tours of the facilities, and volunteers from the Citizen Emergency Response Team, Citizen's Fire, Police Academy Alumni and Citizens on Patrol. These events are free, and everyone is invited! Fire Prevention Week October 7 - 13 What's the best way to protect your family from fire? Have a home fire escape plan that prepares your family to think fast and get out quickly when the smoke alarm sounds. What if your first escape route is blocked by smoke or flames? That's why having two ways out is such a key part of your plan. This years campaign, "Have 2 Ways Out!" focuses on the importance of fire escape planning and practice. We urge you to protect your home and family with life - :i `Ji\' saving technol- ogy and plan- ning. The Euless Fire Department S.A.F.E.T.Y. Troop clowns will be presenting their fire safety message to all Euless elementary schools during this time. If you have kids, talk to them about fire safety to help rein- force the message. Stars Over Euless In partnership with the Noble Planetarium Friday, October G, 8:30 - 10 p.m. Bob Eden Park, 901 W. Mid -Cities Blvd. Join the Euless Parks and Community Services De- partment and staff of the world-renowned Noble Planetarium as we teach area residents about the stars and planets. Planetarium staff will conduct a Powerpoint presentation on different elements in the nighttime sky. Astronomers will bring out powerful telescopes so kids can gaze into outer space and learn about the order and function of stars and planets in the sky. Bring out a blanket for the entire family and enjoy a great evening of ed- ucational fun. The first 100 kids get free glow bracelets. Free refreshments for all participants. Call 817-685-1666 for more information. Euless Fitness Fun Run Saturday, October 13, 9:30 & 10:30 a.m. Bob Eden Park, 901 W. Mid -Cities Blvd. The City of Euless is hosting the first annual family fitness event at Bob Eden Park. Whether you choose to walk, run or jog this awesome 5K fitness course, we guarantee a good time. All participants will journey through a series of ten fitness activities throughout the park trail. You will get dirty and you will sweat. All participants will receive a completion ribbon at the end of the course. The first (9:30 a.m.) flight is an individual run ages 14 to adult. The second (10:30 a.m.) flight is a team of two (adult and child, must be at least 6 years old). During the team flight, fitness tasks can be split up between parent and child. For instance, at the 50 push up station - a parent can perform 40 pushups and child can perform the last 10 or vice versa. Kids, challenge your parents. Families, challenge your neighbors.
