(Nasdaq:USCR), today announced it was awarded the 2014 Concrete Cares Award from the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association in recognition of its longstanding commitment to giving back to its community and, specifically for this past year, for its work on behalf of the Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids with Cancer. For the last 18 years, Redi-Mix Concrete has held a golf tournament with proceeds benefiting those less fortunate in the Dallas and Fort Worth area. Over the years, Redi-Mix Concrete has raised close to $750,000 for various charities. Last year was the fourth year the Redi-Mix Charity Classic benefited the Clayton Dabney Foundation, which was named in memory of a six year old boy who died from a rare form of terminal cancer. In 2013, at the 18th Redi-Mix Charity Classic, over $92,000.00 was gifted to the foundation. More than 100 employees gave close to 1,000 man-hours combined of their time through labor, fundraising and volunteering to make this event a success. "Our mission is to be a responsible corporate citizen but our work with the Clayton Dabney Foundation is so much more personal to our company," said U.S. Concrete President and Chief Executive Officer William J. Sandbrook. "All of our employees take great pride in the difference they make in these families' lives." The Clayton Dabney Foundation anonymously assists needy families with children in the last stages of terminal cancer. The Foundation often provides gifts of last wishes to a child that may be out of financial reach of the parents. In some cases, financial assistance has been provided to ease the heavy financial burdens of families such as car, house, utility payments and other obligations so the parents can spend more time with their dying child. A contribution will be made in Redi-Mix's honor to the foundation by the members of NRMCA's Manufacturers, Products & Services Division. NRMCA, based in Silver Spring, MD, represents the producers of ready mixed concrete and the companies that provide materials, equipment and support to the industry. It conducts education, training, promotion, research, engineering, safety, environmental, technological, lobbying and regulatory programs. The 12-acre site, with a 65,000-square-foot showroom and service center, has been vacant for three years and needed quite a bit of cleaning and painting, Churchill said. It is scheduled to open April 1 as Mac Churchill Auto Mall, selling such luxury names such as Monte Carlo, BMW, Acura, Lexus and Infiniti, he said. The expansion of his dealership, Mac Churchill Acura in Fort Worth, comes as more buyers look for pre- owned luxury brands, he said. “Yesterday, we had a woman from California fly in to look at a used Maserati, 2 years old with 1,200 miles,” Churchill said Thursday. Churchill said he expects to draw buyers from across the region and even worldwide. The lot, at 3737 Airport Freeway, is large enough to hold 700 to 800 cars, he said. “This car business is all over, especially with the Internet now,” he said, adding that he has shipped cars as far away as Russia and New Zealand. Churchill bought the property from Capital Automotive Real Estate Services, deed records show. The McLean, Va., real estate investment trust provides sale-leaseback capital to the automotive retail industry, according to its website. Two years ago, Churchill completed a $5 million expansion at its Acura dealership at 3125 NE Loop 820. Park Place Motorcars moved in 2011 to Texan Trail in Grapevine. Sandra Baker, 817-390-7727 Twitter: @SandraBakerFWST Euless mayor has picked her time to leave the office Posted Friday, Mar. 21, 2014 It was 1993. Mary Lib Saleh, 61, a grandmotherly homemaker, always ready for a challenge but quite happy as an expert in ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, had served on the Euless City Council for four years, the last two as mayor pro tem. When 18-year Euless Mayor Harold Samuels decided not to run for re-election, Saleh ran for the office. So did businessman Glenn Walker, 55, and attorney Neal Adams, 47. Saleh and Adams went on to a runoff, which she won handily with more than 55 percent of the vote. Adams has remained active in local and state politics. For Saleh, it was her last serious political challenge. She’s been the mayor of Euless and one of the most respected leaders in Northeast Tarrant County ever since. Now she says it’s time to step aside; her name is not on the May ballot for the first time in 25 years. Her simple explanation: “I want to go out while the city is in such good shape.” In fact, Euless has seen mostly smooth sailing with Saleh at the helm. A supportive council and a succession of strong city managers has helped, but her calm demeanor has set the tone for steady progress. Economic development, one of her strongest platform planks in 1993, has taken off of late, especially along Texas 121. Park and recreation facilities, notably the Texas Star complex, have made Euless a magnet for visitors. The Euless library, a Saleh love from the beginning, is going strong. Just a year into her first term as mayor, a local resident with a grudge took advantage of a provision in the city charter that made it easy to file a recall petition against Saleh. Not many times have the people of Euless seen her get mad, but that was one of them. A waste of time and money, she said. She was right. The recall election went more than 5-1 in her favor but cost $5,000. That vote also served to lock Saleh’s grip on the mayor’s chair. People in the city of nearly 53,000 just like her. They’ll be sorry she’s leaving.
