City Manager Announces Retirement
By: City of Euless
Euless City Manager Gary McKamie announced that he will retire on January 31, 2015 after 42 years with the city.
McKamie joined the City of Euless in 1973 where he began as a dispatcher. McKamie worked in several positions in
the Police Department during his tenure in Euless.
[Gary McKamie]He eventually rose through the ranks as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Assistant
Police Chief and then Chief of Police in 1993 for six years. He became the Deputy City Manager in 1999 and served in
that capacity for eight years. He then was appointed City Manager in 2007.
As City Manager, McKamie oversaw major commercial development in Euless including Glade Parks and the Riverwalk
while striving to maintain the charm of our community and protect the natural resources that beautify Euless. He
shepherded significant projects that have improved water conservation such as the Reclaimed Water Project that
delivers recycled water for irrigation to apartments in northeast Euless. McKamies conservative budgeting and
innovative development, especially during the economic downturn, has allowed Euless to remain in a strong financial
position.
[Gary McKamie]As Police Chief, he was instrumental in several accomplishments including the passage of the crime
tax, the establishment of the Citizens Police Academy, Town Hall meetings and the building plans of the police and
courts facility.
McKamie now feels the time is right for him to move into his retirement years. The Euless City Council will make a
determination regarding McKamies replacement. He has recommended Deputy City Manager Loretta Getchell for the
position.
[Gary McKamie]Loretta is an intelligent, hardworking and incredibly committed Deputy City Manager and talented
leader who cares deeply for our employees and the city of Euless. She has been a great friend and cohort. I couldnt
have asked for anyone better to work with on the issues that have faced Euless throughout the years.
Raised in San Angelo, McKamie holds a degree in Criminal Justice from Dallas Baptist University. He and his wife
Paula have been married for 40 years. They have three sons: Blake, Brant and Blane, and six grandchildren: Kylar,
Kaylee, Kelsie, Jaxon, Addie and Annabelle.
