Euless police offer drop-off
box for outdated, unused
drugs ... . .

EULESS
Getting rid of any unused or expired medications piling up in your medicine cabinet is easy.
The Euless Police Department has a permanent site for dropping off over-the-counter and
prescription drugs that are outdated or won 't be used.
The city previously had collection days twice a year.
"I found a medication unit that would be available all of the time instead of once or twice a year," Lt.
Brandon Zachary said. "The chief felt like it was a good service for our citizens.and we moved
forward with it."
Zachary said he is pleased with the community's response so far.
"We were pleasantly surprised that we're getting a consistent amount of medication each week,"
Zachary said .
The drop-off box is next to the duty officer's desk in the main lobby at the department, 1102 W .
Euless Blvd. (also known as Texas 10). People can drop off their medications during regular
business hours , 8 a.m . to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A sign shows which medications are
accepted and which are not.
The service is available to anyone, not just Euless residents .

Fellow firefighters used those words in their nomination of Van Noy, 25, for Rookie of the Year 2014 .
"Ryan has demonstrated his ability to improve and grow as a young member of the Euless Fire
Department," one fellow firefighter wrote . "Ryan brings a calm and eager work attitude."
Another firefighter wrote, "Even though he is still very green to the service he seems to pick up on
things quick . He seems very eager to learn."
Van Noy was named Rookie of the Year 2014 during the department's annual awards banquet in
February.
"It was a very humbling experience," Van Noy said. "It's still a team effort."
Born in California and raised in Oregon, Van Noy, of Carrollton , got a taste of firefighting with
wildfires in Oregon. He moved to Texas in 2013 and decided to purse firefighting.
"As soon as I got here , I started school to become a firefighter ," Van Noy said. He became a part-
time firefighter in Sachse and was hired by Euless in June 2014.
The last 11 months have been a learning experience for him .
But Assisant Chief Jeff Morris said VanNoy has an "unbelievable passion " for his job.
"He's been one of the happiest recruits I have ever seen," Morris said . "If you could have a recruit
role model , it would be VanNoy."
His fellow firefighters have grown to respect the rookie.
In one nomination letter, a fellow firefighter wrote, "Ryan picks up information easily and displays a
can-do attitude. He has shown improvement with all that he has learned . He is always a professional
to others and is always first in line when there is something needed."
Van Noy didn't expect to win the award , and his dedication to his job was evident the night of the
banquet.
"I was on duty the night of the banquet, but I was still allowed to attend," he said. "Just after I got the
award , I had to leave because we had a medical call ."
