HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-09-12Regu 1 ar Meet i ng Euless C i t y Council September 12, 1961 The regular meeting o f the Euless C i t y Council was held on September 12, 1961. Present were Mayor J. S. Anderson, Councilmen R. F. Braswell, H. M. Huffman, and B. L. Byers. The council meeting was opened w i t h a prayer by Reverend Robert Haynes. The minutes of the previous council meeting of August 22, 1961, were read by.the C i t y Secretary and approved by the Counci 1. 2. C i t y Attorneys W. L. Bondurant and James Cribbs discussed the necessary steps needed t o be completed i n the C i t y o f Euless going Home Rule. The f o l l o w i n g have already been taketi. A p u b l i c hearing was held August I , 1961, to determine t h e population o f the C i t y o f Euless; i t was determined a t t h i s meeting that the population i s approximately 5490 people. The Charter Committee i s i n the process of being appointed now. 3. The C i t y Council decided t o have a C i t y E l e c t i o n t o approve or disapprove the C i t y of Euless going Home Rule on Saturday, October 21, 1967, w i t h the f o l l o w i n g ladies appointed t o h e l d t h e e l e c t i o n : Mrs. LaVerne Horton, E l e c t i o n Judge w i t h as many of the f o l l o w i n g ladies as needed to h o l d t h e e l e c t i o n to serve as assistants; Mrs. Evelyn Dunn, Mrs. Horace Booher, Mrs. Dale T r i b b l e , Mrs. E. V. Anderson, and Mrs. Juan i ta Haynes. 4. The C i t y Council discussed the f a c t that the C i t y Hall i s g e t t i n g so crowded due to the C i t y of Euless growing so f a s t , t h a t the C i t y should select a Building Committee t o look i n t o t h i s matter as soon as possible, and that t h i s s i t e should be a t l e a s t one and one-half acres or larger and that i t would be desirable to locate it i n the v i c i n i t y of the Junior High School. 5. C i t y lsnpector McAdoo recommended t o the C i t y Council that the City amend the Peddlers Ordinance No. 105 t o permit fence builders to take out a license to b u i l d one fence a t a time and not t o take out a yearly permit unless he desires to do so. A motion was made by Councilman Byers, and seconded by Councilman Huffman, to amend Ordinance No. 105 t o a l l o w buirders t o take out a license t o b u i l d chain l i n fences for a fee of $2.00 and a 1 kense t o 6ui-ld a wood fence for a fee of' $3.00, i n favor of t h i s motion.
