Dear Citizens,
We recently held
a city council
election and I
would like to
congratulate Tim
-= Stinneford and
Eddie Price on their reelection to the
Euless City Council.
If you've travelled down South Main
Street or been over to Heritage Park
lately, you may have noticed some
small historical emblems on some of
the buildings or in the case of Main
Street, at the corner of Yellow Rose
Trail. These markers are part of a
project identifying historical areas,
people and buildings located inside
Euless city limits.
There are various criteria that have to
be met, as well as an approval
process, but if you have a connection
to a local historical person or place in
Euless, you might consider checking
out the Euless Historical Marker
Program. You can find more
information on the city website at:
www.eulesstx.gov/history.

Animal Shelter
A typical day at the Euless Animal Shelter is a busy one.
Larry Atkinson, Animal Control Supervisor, says that on
average they receive about 100 phone calls a day and
make about 40 to 50 calls per week. Animal Services
has two trucks that alternate running calls and
patrolling.
"We get inquiries from people looking for their lost dog,
asking about adoptions, barking complaints and
animals running loose. Wildlife calls end up being
some of the strangest. We get questions on all kinds of
animals including snakes, raccoons and squirrels. We
recently had a call for a beaver." The shelter doesn't
work with bees, wasps and other insects. However, if
you have an unusual request, they have resources with
wildlife rescue agencies who are able to help out.
So what are the major issues Animal Services want you
to be aware of?
Register Your Pet
You can register your pet free of charge, online or at the
shelter. You will receive a tag, similar to a rabies tag, so
if your animal is picked up, it's easily identified and
returned to you. If your pet is not registered and it's
picked up, there is a fee to return the animal to its
owner. Facilities Foreman Kenny Spargur said, "We
would much rather see the dog go home instead of to
the shelter and it's a great feeling to return a dog home
right away."
Eagle Scout Candidate Benji Criste recently assembled a
team to install play features at the Animal Shelter.

Our Drinking Water Meets or Exceeds All Federal (EPA) Drinking
Water Requirements
This report is intended to provide you with important information
about your drinking water and the efforts made by the water system
to provide safe drinking water. The City of Euless is a member of the
American Water Works Association and the Texas Water Utilities
Association.
Public Participation Opportunities:
We encourage public interest and participation in our community's
decisions affecting drinking water. Regular City Council meetings
take place on the second & fourth Tuesdays of the month, at 7 p.m.
in Euless City Hall, 201 N. Ector Dr. The public is welcome. (817)
685-1400.
Water Sources:
The sources of drinking water (both tap water and bottled water)
include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As
water travels over the surface of the land or through the ground, it
dissolves naturally -occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive
material, and can pickup substances resulting from the presence of
animals or from human activity.
Drinking water, induding bottled water, may reasonably be expected
to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The
presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water
poses a health risk. More information about contaminants and
potential health effects can be obtained by calling the EPAs Safe
Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.
Contaminants that may be present in source water include:
• Microbial contaminants, such as viruses and bacteria, which may
come from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural
livestock operations, and wildlife.
• Inorganic contaminants, such as salts and metals, can be naturally -
occurring or result from urban storm water runoff, industrial or
domestic wastewater discharges, oil & gas production, mining, or
farming.
• Pesticides and herbicides, which may come from a variety of
sources such as agriculture, urban storm water runoff, and residential
uses.
• Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile
organic chemicals, which are by-products of industrial processes and
petroleum production, and can also come from gas stations, urban
storm water runoff, and septic systems.
In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, EPA prescribes
regulations which limit the amount of certain contaminants in water
provided by public water systems. FDA regulations establish limits
for contaminants in bottled water which must provide the same
protection for public health.
Contaminants may be found in drinking water that may cause taste,
color, or odor problems. These types of problems are not necessarily
causes for health concerns. For more information on taste, odor, or
color of drinking water, please contact the system's business office.
Special Notice
You may be more vulnerable than the general population to certain
microbial contaminants, such as Cryptosporidium, in drinking water.
Infants, some elderly, or immunocompromised persons such as
those undergoing chemotherapy for cancer; persons who have
undergone organ transplants; those who are undergoing treatment
with steroids; and people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system
disorders, can be particularly at risk from infections. You should seek
advice about drinking water from your physician or health care
providers. Additional guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the
risk of infection by Cryptosporidium are available from the Safe
Drinking Water Hotline.
Required Additional Health Information for Lead
If present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems,
especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in drinking
water is primarily from materials and components associated with
service lines and home plumbing. We are responsible for providing
high quality drinking water, but we cannot control the variety of
materials used in plumbing components. When your water has been
sitting for several hours, you can minimize the potential for lead
exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before
using water for drinking or cooking. If you are concerned about lead
in your water, you may wish to have your water tested. Information
on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to
minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline
or at www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
Where do we get our Drinking Water?
Our drinking water is obtained from surface and ground water
sources. It is supplied by Trinity River Authority (Cedar Creek and
Richland Chambers Lakes) and Euless water wells (Trinity Aquifer).
A Source Water Susceptibility Assessment for your drinking water
source(s) is currently being updated by the Texas Commission on
Environmental Quality. This information describes the susceptibility
and types of constituents that may come into contact with your
drinking water source based on human activities and natural
conditions. The information contained in the assessment allows us
to focus source water protection strategies.
For more information about your sources of water, please refer to the
Source Water Assessment Viewer available at the following URL:
http://www.tceq.texas.gov/gis/swaview. Further details about sources
and source -water assessments are available at
http://dww.tceq.state.tx.us/DWW.
Volunteer Opportunities
The shelter loves volunteers and volunteering can be as
simple as stopping in and walking a dog. They have
installed a nice fenced area to allow more one-on-one
interaction with families and other pets to see how a
potential adoptee will react with their new family. It also
makes a great area for the shelter dogs to exercise. The
Trinity GAP Club has been volunteering at the Animal
Shelter since 2008 and has made a huge difference in
Euless! This all -girl service club is devoted to the animals
at our shelter and work tirelessly to facilitate adoptions
which has greatly reduced the euthanasia rate.
Steffenie Vela, President of the Trinity GAP Rescue, a 501
(c)3 said, "The GAP Club can always use volunteers to
visit the shelter and walk the animals. It's great to take
the dogs out and play! It helps to make them more
adoptable when they have a chance to run and explore
our beautiful new play area. In addition, we desperately
need foster homes for the dogs and cats. It is so
important to provide a home for the pets in order to
maintain that low euthanasia rate. It's also better for the
pet to be in a home rather than the shelter."
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact
Steffenie at steffeniegaprescue@gmail.com or the
Animal Shelter by calling 817-685-1594.
Animals at Large
Unleashed dogs are a continual issue. If you own a pet,
it is your responsibility to be aware of city ordinances
regarding pets. Mr. Atkinson said, "As a pet owner, you
need to know what you can and can't do and where you
can allow your animal to run at large. We have a dog
park in Euless so people can let their dogs run.
It has separate areas for large and small dogs
so they can run and play. You take a risk when
you let your pet run loose in your
neighborhood in that it could get in a fight
with another dog or cat or get run over."
You should always have control of your
animal. That being said, "We want to work
with our citizens. It's always funny to be
driving down a street, someone doesn't have
their dog on a leash and see them quickly turn
and head the other way. We're not the old dog
catcher with the big net. In reality, we consider
ourselves animal services and we want to help
and protect our citizens from animals running
at large."
Know the Code
Sec. 10-61 Animals running at large, generally
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person owning
an animal to permit such animal to run at
large.
(b) An animal shall be considered to be
running at large unless it is restrained under
the following circumstances:
(3) It is secured by a leash or rein of sufficient
strength to restrain and control the animal.
Animal Services plays a huge role in helping
strays find homes while protecting citizens
from wild and loose animals. Animal Services
employees tend to frequently go far and
beyond their duty for our citizens.
