HomeMy WebLinkAbout24 09-06-1954ORDINANCE NO. 24 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING THAT CERTAIN OFFICES OF THE CITY, OTHER THAN MAYOR AND COUNCILMEN, SHALL BE APPOINTIVE INSTEAD OF ELECTIVE; PROVIDING THAT ALL ORDINANCES, OR PARTS THEREOF, IN CONFLICT HEREWITH ARE HEREBY REPEALED; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Title 28, Chapter 2, Article 977, of the 1925 Revised Civil Statutes, as amended by the Acts of 1949, 51st Legislature, page 375, Chapter 199, Section 1, provides that each municipality in Texas, operating under the General Law of the State, other than the officers provided in Ordinance No. .adopted this date, the following additional officers: a City Secretary, a Treasurer, an Assessor and Collector, a City Attorney, a Marshal, an Engineer, and such other officers and agents as the City Council may from time to time direct, who may either be appointed or elected as provided by ordinance; and, WHEREAS, this City Council deems it to the best interest of the City and its inhabitants, tai make all of--such offices appointive; BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS: 1. From and after the effective date hereof, the offices of City Secretary, Treasurer, Assessor and Collector, City Attorney, Marshal, Engineer, and such other officers and agents as the City Council may from time to time direct, shall be appointive instead of elective, and that such officers shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the City Council. The City Council may confer the powers and duties of one or more of these officers-..- upon other officers of the city. 2. All ordinances and parts of ordinance, and. all resolutions and parts thereof, in conflict herewith., are hereby expressly repealed. This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect on the 1st day of April, A.D. 1954. i I�iAYOR on -the 1st day of April, A. D.
