Minutes
June 13, 2016
CALL TO ORDER
Vice-Chair, Mavy Wright, called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m. The meeting was held
at Euless City Hall at 201 N. Ector Drive, Euless.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Doris Brown, Michele Burger, Bill Byers, Joe Cannon, Weldon Cannon, Iris Elliott, Gary
Fieldsend, Bill Golden, Norma Lively, Marilyn Long, Don Martin, David Massey, Veva Lou
Massey, Gary Parker, Mary Lib Saleh, Andy Weinzapfel and Mavy Wright.
STAFF PRESENT
Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson and Projects Coordinator Ofa Faiva-Siale.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Andy Weinzapfel made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Gary Parker seconded
the motion, motion approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The previous balance was $11,624.74. There was a deposit of $12, leaving a current
balance of$11 ,636.74.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1 . Docent Reports / Recruitment—Mavy Wright
a. A list for docent volunteers for July and August was passed around.
b. There were three visitors during open house on Saturday, June 11 , 2016.
2. Acquisitions—Bill Byers reported the following:
a. Weldon Cannon donated four of his report cards from between 1947 and 1951 .
b. Norma Lively donated a 1940's camera.
c. Mr. Byers will call the painter who painted the Cannon Tractor a few months back.
She would like to donate the painting to the Museum.
d. Joe Cannon would like to donate a handwritten letter by his grandmother about a
Christmas pageant. Mr. Cannon noted that his handwriting looks exactly like his
grandmother's. Mr. Cannon would like a copy of the letter.
3. Library Display—Marilyn Long would like to meet with the Sub-committee to discuss
future displays. Bill Byers will open the Museum.
4. Heritage Park—It was reported that Linda Pool donated some photos to be hung in the
Fuller House.

6. Publicity—No Report
7. Plaque—No Report
8. Display Signs—No Report
9. Oral History \ Photography—Norma Lively will be interviewing Bill Byers this week.
Gary Fieldsend will interview Joe Cannon as well.
10.Historical Album Project—No Report
11.Artifact Recovery—No Report
12.Texas State Historical Marker Application— The Committee discussed the Early
Education Marker that was supposed to go on the Sikh property. After a lengthy
discussion the members decided to put the program on hold for a year or so.
13.Historic Tree Program—Andy Weinzapfel:
a. Would like to meet with Ray McDonald about details regarding the Historic Tree
program.
b. Asked for the Committee's help in selecting trees to receive historic designation.
Will provide a list of various trees for the Committee to select from.
c. Thought the idea of including bushes, shrubs, etc. per Weldon Cannon's suggestion
last month a very good idea.
COMMITTEE / OTHER REPORTS
1. Barbara Collier emailed Marilyn Long about removing the pews from the Museum to
allow for more space in the main hall. After a brief discussion, Bill Golden made a
motion to allow Gary Parker and Bill Byers to make the decision regarding the idea.
Andy Weinzapfel seconded the motion, no one opposed, motion carried.
2. The AC was out in the Museum and staff turned in a work order to have it fixed.
3. Additional outlets are needed inside the Museum. There is only one outlet in the
building currently. Staff will turn in a work order to have more outlets put in the building.
Gary Parker would like to meet with the electrician.
4. Bill Byers reported that the First United Methodist Church of Euless recently celebrated
its 140th anniversary. Norma Lively made a very nice display of the church's history for
the event.
5. Weldon Cannon met and invited a descendant of the Hicks family that he met at a
recent Bear Creek Cemetery event. The lady visited Heritage Park and shared many

interesting stories about the Hicks family. Weldon Cannon still has an interview he did
years ago of Ross Hicks.
6. Weldon Cannon also reported that the City of Southlake will be hosting a display about
Southlake and Aviation between July 7 and August 20, 2016. In the past, Mr. Cannon
loaned his research about Aviation and Euless to the Tarrant County Archives and his
materials may also be included in the Southlake display. Mr. Cannon will be attending
the event and he encouraged the Committee to also attend if possible.
7. Bill Golden wondered about progress on the Blacksmith Shop. It was reported that Ray
McDonald is working on it.
8. The committee discussed changing the Wednesday workday to another day.
STAFF REPORT
1. The cross bridge over Highway 183 has been taken down. A piece of the fence with
several locks on it is at the Parks and Community Services office. Gary Fieldsend took
photos of both the cross bridge and the Main Street Bridge before they were torn down.
2. The Police Department found the first mug shot camera ever used by the department
in their storage. They are donating it to the Museum and it's also at the Parks and
Community Services office.
ADJOURNMENT
Bill Golden made a motion to adjourn the meeting. David Massey seconded the motion.
Motion approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11 :14 a.m.
