BOARD MINUTES
August 4, 2016

Chairman Barney Snitz called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to be made to accept the
minutes of the June 2, 2016 meeting. Board Member Brown made the motion to accept the minutes and
Board Member McGehee seconded the motion.
REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR:
Library Administrator Sherry Knight reported the totals of the HEB Reads event that took place over the
summer: 1,370 readers participated totaling 1,104,361 minutes read.
Mrs. Knight commented on the success of the summer outreach programs with Parks and Community
Service (PACS) and some of the local elementary schools.
Mrs. Knight gave an overview of the expected Library remodel timeline and plans.
UPDATE ON LIBRARY EVENTS:
Bad Monkeys performed at the Texas Star Pavilion on Friday, June 10. Attendance: 200.
Circus Chickendog performed on Saturday, June 11. Attendance: 200.
Read-Out under the Stars (reading with Sucha the therapy dog) took place on Saturday, June 18, in
conjunction with the Movie in the Park.
ZooMeez (rock and roll movement for kids)performed on Saturday, June 25. Attendance: 58
Dallas Zoo Animal Adventures was at the library on Saturday, July 9. Attendance: 230
Professor Brainius performed on Saturday, July 23. Attendance: 88

Fort Worth ISD is now leading our English as a Second Language classes 3 days a week.
New on-going programs include Sensory Seekers every Monday, Improvination every Friday, Movie
Matinee every Monday, Reading with Sucha (licensed therapy dog) every Thursday, and Brain-STEM
on Tuesdays.
Operation Back to School will be held on Saturday, August 13 at First Baptist Church in Euless in
collaboration with 6 Stones.
DISCUSSIONS:
1. Chairman Snitz stated that he would be re-applying to the Library Board once his term expired
this year.
2. Chairman Snitz commented on Circus Chickendog as being a very successful and entertaining
event and stated that the Operation Back to School is a great volunteer opportunity that does a lot
of good for the community.
3. Board Member Gibbs commented on his trip to Alaska and his visit to 2 libraries in the Yukon.
4. Board Member Kveck commented on Library Assistant Kasey Fanucchi's success on her work
with the Library's teenage patrons.
5. Board Member McAllister complimented the staff's success in meeting the needs of the
community on every level.
6. Board Member McAllister commented on upcoming events from the Arts Council Northeast and
inquired about the Euless Library Foundation's (ELF)plans for the lobby.
7. Board Member McGehee commented on his trip to Portugal and on ELF's preliminary ideas of
the lobby furnishings.
8. Board Member Hamilton complimented the library staff and volunteers on their great work
through the busy summer programs.
9. Board Member Brown commented on her trip to the Arlington Museum of Art and the WOW
(Words on Wheels) Bus in Fort Worth.
CITIZEN AND VISITOR COMMENTS:
LuAnn Portugal commented on city events and development projects in the city.
ADJOURNMENT:
Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Board Member Kveck and
seconded by Board Member McGehee. The meeting was adjourned at 8:09 p.m.
