BOARD MINUTES
September 1, 2016
7:00 P.M.

Chairman Barney Snitz called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.
DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to be made to accept the
minutes of the August 4, 2016 meeting. Board Member Gibbs made the motion to accept the minutes
and Board Member Brown seconded the motion.
REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR:
Library Administrator Sherry Knight gave an overview of the upcoming events in September.
Mrs. Knight gave an overview of the new programs in the Youth department that will occur during the
first half of the year.
Mrs. Knight explained the library statistics, giving descriptive snapshots over a four year term.
UPDATE ON LIBRARY EVENTS:
Gray Barlett will perform on Thursday, September 8 at 6:00 p.m.
Edible Book Contest will be open to the public this year. Judging will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday,
September 30. Patrons may vote throughout the weekend. Results will be announced Monday, October
3.
DISCUSSIONS:
1. Mrs. Knight commented that the furniture in the lobby was serving as a test for the Euless
Library Foundation's potential upcoming project.
2. Chairman Snitz commented on the funds announced at the City Council meeting for the library
construction.
3. Board Member Brown inquired about the square footage of the building and if it would expand
during construction.

4. Mrs. Knight confirmed that it would not.
5. Chairman Snitz reminded that the City of Euless would hold a ceremony in memory of 9/11 at
the 9/11 Memorial on Ector and Trojan Trail and recommended the Board to attend.
6. Board Member Kveck commented on the success of HEB Reads and the large amount of
children that attended the initial fall programs during the first couple weeks of school.
7. Board Member Gibbs announced the date and time of the Euless Library Foundation's Annual
Meeting and what the program entailed.
8. Board Member Gibbs gave an overview of North Texas Giving Day and requested support of the
Euless Library Foundation.
9. Board Member Gibbs mentioned that the Euless Library Foundation would begin having special
programs every two to three months rather than once a year.
10. Board Member Brown stated that the best cities were the ones with the best libraries and
mentioned that the support this library receives is a testament to how valuable it is in this
community.
CITIZEN AND VISITOR COMMENTS:
LuAnn Portugal complimented the library staffs ability to run such a high number of programs and
mentioned that the Euless Honor Guard would be at the Stair Climb in Downtown Dallas in honor of the
first responders on 9/11 and recommend that the Board attend.
ADJOURNMENT:
Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Board Member Kveck and
seconded by Board Member Gibbs. The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
