Dear Citizens,
This past month
was one of the
most difficult in
our city's history.
We said goodbye
to a great police
officer and a friend. However,
through this tragedy, we also
experienced tremendous outpouring
of love and support from this
community. We are so thankful to
the entire community of Euless, our
brothers and sisters in public safety
and those across the nation that
came to our aide.
In times of crisis, new teams are
forged that pull together for the
greater good. Priorities change and
what is truly valued in our hearts
comes out. Euless witnessed such a
team unite recently in the wake of the
death of Officer David Hofer.
Boundaries and borders disappeared
and we all worked together as one.
The renewed community bond was
awe inspiring and I thank you from
the bottom of my heart for being a
part of that.

Volunteers of the Year
Named for 2015
Euless volunteers consistently give their time
and energy to make our community
FabEuless. In turn, the City of Euless honors
volunteers each year to celebrate the
dedication and service of these outstanding
people.
Volunteer of the Year -
Dale & Joyce Turns
As homeowner liaisons for 6 Stones, Dale
and Joyce meet with homeowners and assess
their needs for the successful 6 Stones
Community Powered Revitalization program.
They are the face of Euless and CPR to the
many people who apply for assistance.
Together, they visit each homeowner selected
by the CPR program to discuss the upcoming
work and repairs to be completed on their
homes, a task that involves countless hours
visiting homeowners, documenting repairs,
attending CPR meetings, and working with 6
Stones and city staff. In addition, they go the
extra mile by helping with various needs
outside of the scope of work.
We couldn't make the CPR program work
without volunteers like Dale and Joyce.
Because of their love for others and
leadership by example, they always go above
and beyond what is called for as a CPR city
liaison. They are the "Blue Print" of what a
volunteer should be.
Volunteer Business of the Year -
Bloomfield Homes
This award was presented to Don Dykstra, Tim Stewart,
and Barry Crowley, with Bloomfield Homes. Because
Bloomfield is a local business, they understand the Euless
community and can be intimately involved in the
planning, development and construction process on a
daily basis. With several Trinity Trojan alums in the
Bloomfield family, Euless is home on both a professional
and personal level.
The Bloomfield team has developed many subdivisions in
Euless, assisted with several extreme home makeovers with
6 Stones and they continue to find ways to give back to
the community. Bloomfield takes special care to work with
adjacent property owners to keep them happy and meet
the needs and concerns to take care of the neighborhood.
They give back to the community and are humble at the
same time.
Volunteer Youth of the Year -
Donia Nasereddin
Donia's service has been a blessing to the Mary Lib Saleh
Euless Public Library. Throughout the past year, she has
helped with various library programs including children's
storytime, Star Wars Reads Day, Teen Tech Tutoring, and
Spooky Stories Under the Stars. She's always available to
help young library patrons complete crafts and provide
quality customer service to program attendants. You can
find her helping with the Friends of the Library book sale
as Donia is consistently willing to go the extra mile with
a smile on her face. It is obvious she enjoys volunteering
and she is consistently punctual, reliable and professional.
Her genuine passion for helping everyone she can makes
the library and community a brighter place.

Lifetime Achievement Award - George Zahn
George Zahn moved to Euless in
1972 where he and his wife raised
two children. It was through
George's involvement in the youth
sports that he began his
involvement with city boards.
George spoke to the Park Board in
January 1982 about the ball fields at Midway Park and
was subsequently appointed to the Park Board in 1984
where he served until 1987. He was then appointed to
the Planning and Zoning Commission in 1987 and with
the exception of a couple of years, George served
faithfully until resigning in 2015. During his time on
P&Z, he asked very specific questions during meetings
and held developers accountable to their promises to
ensure Euless received quality development.
He has been a Scout Leader and volunteer for the Boy
Scouts of America for almost 55 years and has served the
Longhorn Council. George has been described as family-
oriented, humble and a driving force while acting behind
the scenes. He always has a better community in mind
with his actions and does not do anything for personal
interest or gain. His legacy in Scouting has been
recognized through multiple awards and recognitions,
but it is his service and values instilled by scouting which
has left a mark on this community.
Our congratulations go out to all of this year's winners.
The dedication of a volunteer's time and energy cannot
be compared and we appreciate their love and
admiration for Euless. Thank you for the time and energy
that you spend to help make Euless great!

Fire Administration, 201 N. Ector Dr.
Next month is the Euless Fire Department Kids
Academy, a local five-day camp dedicated to teaching
kids what it is like to be a firefighter for the City of
Euless. Kids Academy is a great opportunity for the
firefighters to help kids build a sense of teamwork
and responsibility. We only accept applications from
children 11 to 15 years of age. In order for any child
to attend the Academy, he or she will have to rely on
an adult for daily transportation. Checks can be
made payable to the City of Euless for the amount of
$40. Please write KIDS ACADEMY on the
"For/Memo" line.
Hazardous
Material
Disposal
Setting that old
television on the curb
for trash pickup might seem like a good idea, but
televisions and other electronics can contain lead
and other toxic materials that end up in the
environment. Items like batteries, chemicals,
electronics and old medicine cause problems
when dumped and most can actually be recycled.
For a list of places to take your hazardous
materials, visit www.eulesstx.gov/hazmat.
