Did you know...
The Dallas Stars will practice in Euless
on January 25 from 11 a.m. - noon?
Dear Citizens,
Euless has a great
group of citizen
volunteers who are
always finding ways
to get involved in
their community. I
especially love to
see new faces participate through
some of the various outlets around
the community and encourage you
to get involved. The easiest way is to
call our Volunteer and Events
Coordinator, Jerry Poteet at 817-685-
1449. However, there are other ways
to get involved that you might not
have considered.
• You can join a board or
commission.
• Sign up to train and become part
of our Community Emergency
Response Team, Euless Citizen's
Police Academy or Euless Citizen's
Fire Academy.
• Voice your opinion at a town hall
meeting or use the Access Euless app
on your phone to notify us of a
concern.
These are just a few of the many ways
to get involved. We hope you will
take some time to contribute to your
community and meet your
neighbors.

Deck to direct communication, special projects
Betsy Deck has been promoted and will be Assistant to
the City Manager for the City of Euless. Deck has served
as the Communications/Marketing Manager for Euless
since 2004. Prior to working in Euless, she worked for
the City of Southlake in the Economic Development
Department.
As Assistant to the City Manager, Deck will continue to
be responsible for the communication from the City of
Euless, but will also have expanded duties to involve a
variety of special projects such as solid waste initiatives
and the reclaimed water project.
City Manager Loretta Getchell said, "Betsy works on many additional
endeavors that aren't necessarily in the communications/marketing role. We
thought that was more appropriate for the duties she's assumed over the
years.
Deck holds a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication from Texas
Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. She and her husband Stuart have been
married for 8 years. They have a son, Lawson, 6, and a daughter, Parker, 3.

Water University - The
Edible Landscape
January 20, 6:30 p. m.
Euless City Hall, 201 N. Ector Dr.
Why water and mow what you can't eat.
Utilizing areas in your landscape to grow
edibles is a way to add food on your table
and reduce your grocery bill. This program
teaches you how to incorporate edible plants
into your home garden and landscape. You
will learn how herbs, fruits and vegetables
can add to the colors and textures of your
permanent landscape combining both
aesthetics' and functionality.
Open Records
You may know that you can access a variety
of information on the Euless city website.
But one database you may not be aware of is
the City Secretary's Office of public records.
One of the functions of the City Secretary's
Office is safeguarding and improving the
public access to records, documents and files
of the City, including responding to requests
for information. Many city records are
available online through an electronic
document repository, including City Council
minutes, ordinances, resolutions, deeds and
easements, recorded lines and assessments,
and the election register.
From the main homepage, just select "Open
Records Request" from the menu on the
front left side of the page.

Teen Court
H.E.B. Teen Court is looking for both adult
and teen volunteers. Teen Court is a peer
program that allows juvenile first offenders
with Class C misdemeanors an alternative
in the criminal justice system. Teen
volunteers serve as the attorneys, bailiffs and
clerks, while adult volunteers assist during
court sessions as jury monitors and judges.
Volunteering for Teen Court is a fun and
great way to serve your community. Teens
and adults work together to provide
defendants the opportunity to take
responsibility for their actions, while
learning about the justice system. Teen
volunteers learn public speaking skills,
interviewing techniques and administrative
skills. Local attorneys and the Teen Court
Coordinator combine their time and talents
to provide all teen volunteers with thorough
training.
You are welcome to visit any Teen Court
session to observe and find out more about
our program! If interested, call the Teen
Court office at 817-952-2468.

Tree Tips from the
Euless Parks Department
January
Planting
• Continue to plant new shade trees, fruit trees and evergreen shrubs. Mulch root areas.
• Continue to transplant established trees and shrubs while they are dormant.
Pruning
• Prune with a purpose. Do not "top" any trees or shrubs including crape myrtles. Never leave
stubs. Cut flush against remaining branches on shrubs and along the branch collar on trees.
Peach and plum trees should be pruned to encourage horizontal branching, remove any
strongly vertical shoots.
• Continue to prune evergreen trees such as magnolias, live oaks and wax myrtles to minimize
possible ice damage.
• Re -shape evergreen shrubs and shade trees, as needed, during the winter dormant period.
